A question for you inliners about 292's

    Does a 292 have the same bellhousing pattern as an SBC? I thought I read something about that here but I can't find anything in the archives. If so, then a 4 speed GM box would fit nicely behind one.

    Yep. Got one for free that had an aluminum bellhousing on it. Still have the housing, ditched the motor.

    should fit just fine, 230-250-292 the same family of motors, 216 and 235 are diffrent

    some of the 292s have the same crank flange as the older SBC, others have larger 1/2" bolt holes and 3 dowels. The bellhousing is the same.

    and the motor mounts on the 292 are funky, one side is offset forward from the other.

    The reason I ask is that I have a line on an overhauled one for a fair price that a guy swapped a 327 in for, so he is cutting me a deal. I want a stick because they are fun, 'nuff said.
     
  7. just make sure you check the flywheel - it should use the smaller one
