I have a few questions for you guys and have done some searching on here and other sites as well. I am building a 53 Chevy 2 dr post, it has mustang II front with drop spindles, rear has poise springs, body is going to be a 70s style red metallic roof with white body, scallops or a lot of striping, going to run active lake pipes, my engine is a small journal 327 .030 over with the mutha thumpr cam with 287 duration and .489 lift 2200-6000 rpm range, trans is a 350t with shift kit and 2500 stall, not sure details on it just told shop what I'm running and they said they would take care of it, very reputable shop all my buddies use, as for carb have 650 edelbrock, hei distributor, question is I have a new performer intake and a 70s model scorpion 2950, I love the look of the scorpion but from what I read it has 4500-8000 rpm range, not certain though. I want this for street and like fun drags on Friday nights, do you guys see an issue here or will it be ok, also running double hump heads 202 valves new seats any help would be appreciated
I would use a dual plane intake, with a 1 inch spacer... Dual plane boosts vacuum for street use, and the spacer raises the RPM range slightly.... Do you have power brakes? If not, another plus for single plane... Since you have a higher stall converter, you can run a single plane, and degree the cam perhaps slightly advanced.... 106 or so degrees.... ( check with cam company for advise) You gotta make sure your cam and converter are matched, and your intake has to be in the same HP and TQ range.... As you know If memory serves me.. This was pre Torker days single plane intake... Then came torqer and victor jr ect....Manifolds are easy enough to change try both.... I think the scorp will give you more power
I'd sell both intakes on Craigslist and buy a used Performer RPM; it's a dual plane designed for ~1500-6500 rpm. Here's why: Neither of your current intakes matches the rest of your combination. The Performer is designed for off-idle to 5500 RPM. The scorpion is at the other end of the spectrum--pretty much race only.
If you are not trying to set a new land speed record I think you could run scorpion just match the the carb for what works best for the street. JMO.
Edelbrock Scorpion 2950 4500- 8500 rpm range no heat crossover ports first of the "air gap" type manifold. BUT, it's kinda rare and worth keeping.
Sorry, I'm a truck driver and I'm only home 4 days a month and my buddy is helping me with the car at his shop, I will be on vac at end of month and hope to knock out a lot and get some decent pics up loaded, its still in very early stages, but my engine, trans is done, need to get body off ch***is so I cand blast the underneath and ch***is so it can go to powder coater
This^^^ Your cam is the brains of the drivetrain You pick a cam based on your ideal and goals. Now everything should match the cam. ( 2200-6000 rpm) 2500 rpm converter - check Rear gear so you are in that 2200-2500 zone - check Manifold that works or designed for that rpm zone ,,, Performer nope too low - scorpion - nope too high. What's it going to cost you to try the scorpion and find out ? Maybe you like it enough to live with the short comings it will bring on the street. It shouldn't take you more than an afternoon to swap an intake even if you are really hung over and **** around alot. some coolant and a set of gaskets. If you don't like it you can change it easy enough.
So I finally figured out how to load pics to the hamb from my phone so I put a few pics in my album on my profile, please feel free to check them out
