Im searching for the pushrod cover gasket, but the auto parts counter fellas are having a bit of trouble understanding what I'm doing. Can someone here tell me if a GM auto may be the same block casting?? Block number is 14097080 ( not sure if the 1 is really there ). I've been told its a 92 mercruiser 181, but I'm not sure. Those numbers don't seem to be matching what I have found for the Marine series.

Hard to tell exactly from the pictures, but that looks like a 120 hp Mercruiser engine. If so, I think this is the gasket you need.

Any Mercruiser dealer should be able to get you one if you give them the engine numbers.

Well, that page didn't print as I wanted. Just call a Mercruiser dealer and give them your engine numbers.

  4. The head is from a 153 but it will also fit on the 181 (which is what I have). The 1962-70 4 cylinder Chevy II pushrod cover gasket should work.

Yep...the 153 Chevy II side cover
gasket is the same piece as the
    181 GM Industrial and Mercruiser
    side cover gasket. An industrial
engine place or a Mercruiser dealer
will have one in stock while most
    autoparts stores will probably have
to "order it in" if you ask them
for the '62=0 Chevy II "automotive"
    gasket.

As said you have a 153 Chevy II head there ,easy to tell by the way the manifold fits. Only odd gasket on your engine would be the head gasket if it is the 181 with a 4" bore. All other gaskets are the same as the 153 Chevy II mail Jeep etc.

What kind of valve cover and side cover do you have?

  9. It sure looks like my MerCruiser Marine valve cover and side plate. On the side plate mine has "MerCruiser Marine" cast in (the one in the picture may have been machined off or it just doesn't show up in the photo)
and on the valve cover, if I remember correctly, there was a stick on label.

They are marine covers, with ribs in the casting. Nothing to special; cast has a few pits under close inspection.

Today at work I pulled up the part numbers for a Mercruiser 120/140 pushrod/lifter gasket. The MC number is 27-34208 and the Sierra number is 18-0328.

I am basing that on my ***umption yours is a 120/140.

Don,won't the 140 cover be taller? Like the difference between a 250 and 292?

I don't know, I am only guessing it is a 120/140 from the picture. If we had some numbers off the block or tag that is riveted to the block it would help. It appears there are two 140 engines, an early and a late, but not sure what the differences are. My parts book at work shows them as a 153 ci and a 181 ci.

    No..the cover size and location
    and other external dimensions
on the 153 and 181 are the same.
Both engines are based on - and
    are basically,, just shortened,
4 cyl. versions of - the standard
    194-230-250 Chevy car 6. While
    the 181 has a bigger, 4-mch bore
and a longer, 3.6 inch stroke than
the 153, it's not based on the
    raised-deck 292 Chevy truck 6.

At least the cyl head is a Chevy 153, Mercruiser 120. The intake and exhaust manifolds are Clifford, I have the same setup in my T. I kinda like the 94s, probably a vintage speed adaptor huh? I'm using a Weber.

Thanks for the help thus far. The Felpro early Chevy II gasket did not work out. The small doughnut gaskets were too small for the Marine cover bolts. I have a different p# coming today to see if that changes at all.
