51 Chevy coupe , mustang II help

    Well I got a mustang II front end kit and it came with no manual. So how do I know where or how to find center ? For the axle. Anyone know of a good manual online or have the measurements or advice on finding axle center

    What brand is it?

    Can you hang your fenders back on to get your centers lined back up?

    Exactly. Regardless of the brand, it's common for kit instructions to be a little "forgiving" for the home builder. Translated..... they can be wrong. So the only way to establish a true axle centerline for your car, is to see where axle centerline is on your car. Also, when cars are lowered, what was the stock centerline looks wrong.

    I still have the stock front end on it and have not started taking it apart yet but the body is on another frame ATM

  7. The wheels on your stock frt end are gonna be centered with the wheel openings of the sheet metal,=UNLIKE= the rear wheels,
    which could be ahead of center-a lot of times....
    stringline the spindle center to center and right to left over the frame rails and mark the frame there...

    then compare that line to the rear wheels for a check of factory wheelbase and also compare measurements from a COMMON given point TO YOUR MARKS ON BOTH SIDES THEN YOU ARE VERY CLOSE TO PERFECT....

    The big problem is going to be figuring out the upper hats. If you figure out where the lower crossmember goes, that is the easy part. The hats need to be properly placed for both caster issues and the angle for anti dive. And using someone else's instructions could get you in trouble - are the arms designed the same, or different off set - things like that.

    Do the components that you have look exactly like those shown in the ebay pics? The reason I ask is for several reasons.
    1- the pictured crossmember does not appear to be for 49-54 car due to the shape of crossmember to chevy (top hat) shape frame.
    2- the lower control arms appear to have a sleeve? inserted front to rear which unless you discard them cannot appear to fit the crossmember.
    3- also lower control arm shows a bolt sticking out that I think is for a sway bar that is not shown to be included.
    4-rotors in group picture different than shown in other picture.

    That said, my guess is that the picture shown is possibly a "stock photo" or "generic" photo rather that what you actually have. So if your parts are different than those pictured it will be difficult for anyone to help you without correct pictures.

    The "hats" or upper spring mounts look like maybe a copy of the earlier version of those sold by TCI. Some of the other parts do as well.
