After a ton of fun it's time to install the rear window gl*** in my 40 Ford Tudor Sedan. The gl*** is new and was in the project car when I bought it, however the fit was not right. Where the outer edges of the outside of the gaskets met the roof, they did not lay flat and had gaps. I made the mistake of not being there when "my guys" took the gl*** and seals out so I need some help. Sorry for the poor pictures but these are all I have of the area.

    1. First I need to know how the gl*** fits in the holes in relation to the metal lip. I can see that the gasket fits around the gl*** and over the metal lip but does the gl*** go inside metal lip or outside the metal lip; or is the gl*** suppose to be small enough so that it is even with the metal lip? My gl*** is new but is just a tiny bit to large to sit even with the metal lip.

    2. Is there an inside and outside for the gaskets and how do you tell? If so these looked like they were in backwards.

I found a great tread from Jan. 13 that should help me with actual install but any tips sure will help. Thanks

Buy a new set of seals from Bob Drake, they will come w/a pattern that you can check your existing gl*** against. If the gl*** is not cut correctly the seals won't lay down right in the corners. The gl***/seal is installed from the inside & the seal lip is pulled thru w/ a nylon cord or in a pinch I use a length of 14ga. electrical wire. Get a tube of 3M bedding & glazing compound, don't even think about it not leaking!

I agree with getting Drakes gaskets if you don't know who made yours. I tried using some customer supplied Vintique's and couldn't get them to lay right, puckered all over. Sounds like your's before you pulled them. Double checked the gl*** against some nice originals, new gl*** was cut perfect so I trash canned the Vintique's and got some Drake's. Slipped right in and fit perfect.
