It doesn't just look like rust, it is real rust. The paint has iron shavings in it that rust after the car is exposed to the elements. I don't think it offers any protection against body rust, I would think it would only make your body rust worse. This product was designed for fibergl*** to give a bare metal look. You'd be better off to strip your paint on your steel body and rub it down with oil to keep it from deteriorating.

That is retarded my car is rusty and I think it looks like ****. Im about as tired of that as I am of everybodys car being flat black, and I had a flat black car. Only because it was five colors when I got it and it was to keep it from rusting more untill I got some real paint.

If you can afford to buy decent paint do it right. In a year I'll bet you regret it. Its a fad like 80's pastels, or maybe you enjoy ridicule from HAMBERs.

It is your car so go make it ugly if you want.

Why in the heck would you want it to look like rust. If you already have rust just clear coat it and stand back then go "why the heck did I waste the cash on that anyhow?"

Might be some of Ron Young's stuff.
He teaches Bronze casting and patinas at California State University at Long Beach, so Jesse might know him.
    This is his company. http://www.sculptnouveau.com/coatings.html

You would need a solid layer of paint

below the Instant Iron to protect the steel.

Suprised nobody has done a Corvette in this stuff.

Throw some metal shavings (from a chopsaw, bandsaw, grinder, ect.) in the wet paint and after it's dry, throw it outside for a while.

Hey dude, did you not see an old episode of Monster Garage "The NutCracker" they PAINTED wood grain flames over the font of the Chevy pickup. They used a method that cheese cloth was layed on wet paint. Also some old cars had there dashboards painted in a wood grain effect by using black ink spread with brushes or blown with air to give the correct effect over brown paint then clear coated.

OK you fuggin guys brought up woodgraining...

all the extras i got in my school days was earned doing woodgraining on anitique cars. Dad taught me some methods that grampa used when he redid the insides of some the old otis elevators in downtown Det. From there he and I just kept improving and advancing with today's tech. Had opportunity to do a couple pieces for Ford as well. Now we can do it so you litterally can not tell a metal pice from real wood. So now what? I guess it may make a nice retirement job in the future.

Rust tho...man I just don't know. I do see a realistic flame job...
smoke with a 'cety torch (real old trick)..
add rust after and under the smoke...
    voila! true burnt metal.

I don't think I can sell it but I got a couple old bike tanks to try it on. This site is for inspiration and support right?

I actually kind of liked that car. It would be hilarious to see that kind of finish on a Corvette though, you'd have some people scratchin' their heads for a minute.
