It's about time vehicles with patina have become popular and respected, the Vintage motorcycle enthusiasts have been into them forever. Like an old pair of boots or jeans the patinaed vehicles have a warmth to them, and a history that the bright shinny vehicles don't. Who knows if I'll ever put my '30 Ford Roadster back together, but I know the rear quarters will never get stripped and redone. That is how I found it @ 1962, and how it will stay.
I don't have the answer. I know for me when at a large event, like say the Puyallup Wa Good Guys, I walk by countless beautiful show worthy cars and trucks, but seem to stop dead in my tracks when I come across the old original unmolested Hot Rods and customs from the past. There is a curiosity about them..how they were/are, and how it was. A time capsule of a bygone era. Also, a great reference for the application of that "rare old speed equipment part" you scored at the swap meet, and possible, but not yet found parts that go with it. Kind of like that old beautiful mission style house, with it's original woodwork vs the new cookie cutter houses in the new developments, trying to look the part.
