Where did you mount your battery?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Jul 16, 2013.

  1. I mounted an Optima in this ammo can. The can is bolted to the floor and I hole-sawed hole thru the bottom of the can and the floor of the be for the cables. Works just fine. This ammo can is wider than most I've seen. The battery fits in there just right.

I built a battery box and bolted it to the frame under the floorboards....

My '32 3 window, the battery was behind the seat. The '31 Coupe had the battery in the trunk. My '51 Ford Gasser and '52 Chevy had the battery in the trunk. My '65 Bicayne, '63 Grand Prix and '49 Ford had the battery in the stock location.

    Mounted in the trunk.

Set up for two type 51 batteries, one at each end of the gas tank. Couldn't find a box the right size so made replicas of 50 cal. boxes to fit

In the trunk on my Austin gasser, and also on my Falcon gasser. The Austin's trunk is so small it was useless anyway. Falcon is so big I could still toss a couple bodies in there! ;)

This is an old shot...I have since covered the two big ventilation holes with a louvered plate. That's my toolbox I bought for myself for X-mas back in '72.

My 57 Dodge's is in the stock location under the floorboard. It has a lid with spring steel tabs that keep it in place and a rubber floor mat that can be lifted up to access the Stock master cylinder and battery. It also has side skirts now to hide the clutter.

  13. Side question: Will a battery for a 40 Ford fit in the stock location with an SBC? (passenger inner fender). I know, it looks ugly.

still trying to figure out a location as the trunk is big but the back half frame will take away from it and the exhaust running under it might present a problem , but thinking of putting it back up front on the firewall as the engine compartment is monsterous . ( 50 Cheiftan )

Since I installed a 700 R4 the transmission crossmember prevented me from placing battery in stock location under floor so I put battery in my tool box.

37 Chevy, underneath the right front fender. It rode there for 30 years. Out of sight, never gave me a problem.
