Picked this cream puff up yesterday. Super dry and in good shape for sitting since 1995. Front right corner hit a telephone pole way back. Bumper and fender took the hit - no other damage. Time to go looking for parts. Initial plan is to just clean it up and get it on the road - then decide about customizing. I'd love to hear about other 58-60 Lincoln projects out there!

I always wanted a car that looks like a cream puff and goes like hell. Unfortunately it's usually the other way around.

I love those cars! My mom and dad had several of them back years ago, there is a very good chance that is one of their old cars, I would say they had upwards of 20 or so in the 70's. I grew up with the old box car lincolns and other wonderful ford products from the 50's. Man how I miss those days.....I am subscribed to this thread and will be watching it. I also will keep my eyes open for the parts you are needing, I know you are going to want to kill me for this, but there is a guy that has an old yard right near Joplin that a guy took me too a year back or so that had a couple old box car lincolns in it, it was along a creek, it has been closed for many years it was up a little hill behind his house and had about 200 cars from the 30's- the 50's does that ring a bell with anyone from that area? Really nice guy, cheep on prices, but I have lost his number, I might be able to find him again if I came over and hunted a bit. Maybe we can get together in a week or two if no one knows him and you cant find the parts before then. Jim

...and they say Mopars of that era are funny lookin'. Lincoln designers were smoking the same wacky tobacky as the Chrysler guys.

Thanks Jim. My bad news is that I moved back to New Mexico about two months ago. I will be back to Joplin from time to time to visit family so maybe I'll meet up with you down the line. I have not heard of the yard you mentioned - - but I'd sure like to find it! :)

OK Lincoln experts - how bad is this? The jam at the A pillar is tight so the fender is pushed back. There is also a small wrinkle in the inner fender up where radiator support ties in. The worst looks to be underneath. Hood alignment is good along this side.

Love the 55-64 Continentals, but don't see too many customs.

    Colored coves ala 56-61 Vettes
    Suicide Doors
Continental deck lid, could be similar to the bulge like on Chryslers
    Full skirts on rear
    Dagmars on front bumper
I'd also love to see a Breezeway Linchero or one with rumble seat

  11. Going to have to get it on an alignment rack and check things out. That should help sort out if it's just cosmetic or not.

Now that I know it runs I'll take the next steps toward getting it on a frame machine. First I'll measure hub to hub on each side and go from there.

  13. hell yeah this thing is sweet! nothing a little elbow grease cant fix

  14. I was thinking that too, but if it's off just a fraction that may be hard to check out without either setting it up on a 4-wheel alignment rack or on a frame table with the laser measuring deal.

That is a unibody car you will need to get it on a frame machine & pull the right side upper forward & down slightly. As you are making the pulls you can straighten the fender. I repaired several of them back in the 80s. Just changing the fender wont cure the problems. A good metal & frame guy can have it looking decent in a few days. You will need to make sure you have good headlight buckets & trim also a correct shape grill so as you are working the metal every thing lines up & fits correctly.

I never knew those could have that Mercury Breeze-way window option. I'll be damned.

    Hey,

    X2 on carbuilder's post..............

The facebar, fender & wheelhouse can all be straightened in two or three pulls by a guy that knows what he's doin:D This will also correct the fender to rt. door gap, and 75% of the fenders' damage. With the headlamp ***y. removed you'll be able to get the other 25% of the damage bumped out of the fender & wheelhouse.

If you just try and R&R the fender without any pulls being made you'll still have alignment & blackmetal to straighten and the finished job won't be a complete one:eek:

With as clean as that one is, spend the time and do it correctly, and you'll have a killer short to cruze in!

A lot of parts and pieces in these old Lincolns.

You might have some fun getting the hood right.

    I love my 58!!!

Chris Dunn at Lincoln Land in Clearwater Florida is a good guy and good resource for parts and info.

    Good Luck, Have Fun.

So my ****** is puking fluid out the dipstick and I have to rev the engine to get the trans to engage/move the car. From what I've read - I think the vent may be plugged but I have no idea where the vent is on this trans. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

I'm not 100% sure but I swore it was on the top of the trans closer to the bell housing on my car. (60 Premiere, same trans.. Large case Fordomatic)

That may be worth a read, sounds like something is causing pressure issues inside your transmission.

Fatsco has everything to rebuild these, even with new bands its under $500 in parts. Just watch for cracks in the main trans case.

I think rld14 is right on...look at the upper part of the transmission case,(usually on the p***enger side) I am sure you will find a 1/4" tube that could be full of crud or a mud dauber has closed it up...good luck, *******.
