my 1951 pontiac's tank is on it's last legs, there are no repops/replacements, and I'm going even lower in the back and could use the clearance.

I'm looking for another car's tank that would work...thin is key.

ideally it would have side filler location so I can still use my factory fuel door, but if not I'll go up thru the trunk.

anyone us another GM tank in their '49-52 pontiac?
how about a particular mustang tank or other brand/model?

    any help would be great...
looking for something quick, easy, affordable...and thin. something under 7" thick.
...and I'd be ok with as little as 10 gallons.

  2. good luck if you can go to a car show and just look under cars. Or try to find a shop that can make you one Good Luck.

Find a parts store with an older model cross reference book.

What size is the opening? Thin is not going to tell us much.

I would summon a fabricator to make a copy of your tank minus the couple of inches clearance... Hell even make a template of the original tank for some of the guys that may be interested in making a new one....

A buddy of mine used a 1965 mustang tank in his 1952 Chevy. The spare tire well had to be removed, but it ended up being a slick install.

How thin? What about Rotopax and some ingenuity? It's probably a bad idea, but they are thin.

How about one of the 49-66 Chevy truck gas tanks that fit behind the seat? Check out the online catalogs from one of the aftermarket suppliers (like LMC) for dimensions. Maybe too wide?
