Been fixing up the 50 Chevy 3100 and working on issues as I find them. When I run the engine, it appears that the ammeter is not moving. I looked at the generator, but couldn't figure out which terminal is Field and which is Armature. Looking from the front of the generator, there are to terminals. The only markings are two triangles. One by each terminal. One points to the front of the generator and the other points to the back. I saw a general statement online that said "when looking from the front, the Field terminal is on the right". As for the generator, it's a Delco Remy 1102711, which was cataloged for a 49/50 Pontiac. Just want to make sure I have the wiring correct.
Looking from the back of the generator: ARM is on the left FLD is on the right This will need to be polarized to work, dont remember how to do this, maybe someone else will reply here SPEEDY
Thanks! I'll try the wires that way. I'm sure there's something wrong, but it appears that the battery charges with the wires switched either way. Can I had another ammeter to hook up to check the generator and wiring. It's been a whole lot of years since I dealt with a generator and regulator. In all the manuals and diagrams I saw of the generator it shows the A F terminals, but don't say from front or back. As I said in my original post, there's a stamped triangle next to each terminal. Based on looking from the back, the ARM triangle points to the front (pulley) and FLD triangle points to the back. Why they didn't mark the terminals ARM and FLD is beyond me.
