Hey guys I'm installing all the wood in my roof and I had a question about the header bracket that ties all the wood together above the windshield. Does the bracket get pinched between the header wood and the metal over the windshield or do the bracket and the wood header pinch that metal piece? Here's a pic

I'm not questioning the way this was done. I just wanted to double check. It seems like it would make more sense to pinch that bracket BETWEEN the metal and the wood as there is actually a little 'shelf' routed in the wood that seems like its for this purpose. I dunno. I probably just confused everybody. :(

  2. Please clarify what year and body style. There are differences.

If there is a clearance cut into the header for it, that is where it belongs.

Oops yeah - It's 30-31 standard coupe. I've seen a lot of guys put the bracket on the p***enger compartment side of the metal over the windshield but after looking at it and playing with it for a while it didn't make sense to me. Was it different for 28-29 coupes? Thank a lot!

Well the one in the pic I posted I believe is a 30-31. (that's definitely the same bracket I'm using) But I've seen guys mount that bracket both ways. Anyone know which is correct?

My header was a home made messed up piece BUT the bracket was behind the metal frame. The holes in the metal frame on my 30 tudor are counter sunk to take flathead bolts.

Here's a pic of the bracket mounted the other way. I know this is in a '30 coupe and this makes more sense to me. Anybody wanna chime in?

  9. This is how I did my 30 A, seemed to fit better. It's a shame these wood company's don't supply distructions, sometimes we have nothing to go by.

This is a picture of my 1930 Model A coupe upper drivers side corner. Kind of hard to make out, but the bracket is behind the cross piece.

    Hope this is some help.

Ok here are pics of my installation... most of this is just mock-up and not all of it is installed yet but I'm pretty certain I'm doing it correctly. Hopefully this will help some people. (once again this is in a 30-31 STANDARD COUPE!)

Yeah it surprised me how difficult it was to find info on this. I'm sure a lot of people like me just figured it out as they went like a puzzle but I'm certain a lot of people did it incorrectly. The way I've done it, everything has lined up nice and tight with a minimal amount of jimmying. My doors open and close decently, my dovetails line up, and I've used all the stock body mount locations. It helped tremendously that I had a Brookville frame to start with as the body was a real mess. I think I'm really headed in the right direction now. If I'm off on anything please let me know...

I just finished doing the top wood in my 31 coupe. Got the kit from Snyders. Fit was pretty good for something that came from the east coast to fit on my 80 year old car. packing material was fun to read also.
