Ever wonder "How do I do that?" Well, maybe we can help.

The Chrome Czars and Hot Rod Chassis & Cycle have teamed up to present a winter hot rod seminar series we're calling "Hot Rod 101". The second Sunday of every month (November-April) we'll have a seminar on some basic hot rod skills. Some days we may also have an additional lecture on things like drag racing history and hot rod math. We'll cook some hot dogs, swill some beer and then have a 3 hour class (some may be longer).

Classes will be $20 and you'll have to pre-register and pre-pay, and class size will be limited, but variable depending on the topic. That stuff isn't set up online yet, but will be soon.

    http://www.chromeczars.com/hotrod101/index.php

    The first 2 topics are:

Nov. 13: Small Block Chevy Rebuild; Magnet will demonstrate how to reassemble a 283 v8 short block. If time allows, we will also cover head assembly.

Dec. 11: Automatic transmission rebuild; Hot Rod Chassis staff will demonstrate how to rebuild two of the most common hot rod trannies, the cast iron Chevy Powerglide and the Ford C4.

Sounds like fun. I don't really need to watch football/NASCAR anyways! If you guys need deals on parts for the rebuild let me know, I can help out.

Bob teaches donuts 101 and 102:
The principal part of the program consists of three core courses chosen from major areas in Donuts, Brakestands, and Drifting respectively, specially designed and offered exclusively to hot rod participants, a weekly interdisciplinary brake vs. gas seminar and a weekly colloquium-type lectures by visiting and resident drivers. Each core course involves a research project in the respective area of driving, often involving creative use of hotrods.

Wait, bob has class or has a class? Either way, I'm down.

These classes might not be as cool as watching bobbleed consume donuts while partaking in donuts, but hopefully some of the younger (and young at heart) hot rodders can get a chance to pick up some information to make the hobby better for them personally.

any idea when the top chop seminar will be, and do you really think that can be covered in three, or even four or five hours?

i may fly in for that one, and i HATE flying into the windy city in the winter time, scary shit!

let me know about that one...

No, the top chop will obviously take more than one session. That one would probably be alot longer. Still trying to figure out the logistics on that one. The guinea pig would most likely be either a shoebox or a 48 chevy.

  10. That sounds great, sign me up for the top chop session. Shaun.

The top chop may require a seperate weekend... a whole weekend... and require previous knowledge... like welding, sawzall use, first aid, etc... and would require that you sign up for all days. Like Django said, we haven't figured out all the details yet, but I suspect it will be in the Spring

I took band-aid 101 in junior college. I failed the class, (kept getting the band-aid stuck to itself when I pulled off those white strips) but in a high pressure situation I might be just whats needed. :)

If we get enough out-or-towners, we'll do the top-chop on a weekend and go all day for two days so everyone gets to see the whole thing.

I don't know Bleed, but from all the pictures I've ever seen of him, I think he could squeeze in hair styling 101 as well!

if I have anything to do with it will be! I think Magnet, HotRodChassis, and I will have to play rock, paper, scissors.

Me too, I'd like to do the '48 Chevy. We've got a '51 Ford here for everyone to see how it's chopped.

Ok, so Magnet has to get his face cut off or something, so the first class (SBC assembly) is postponed until December. Batting in it's place will be "Hot Rod 101: Class #1; The Exorcism of Electrical Demons". I'll let Joe Hellfish describe it best:

"Hot ROd 101 should help you plan your project and give you a lot of the information you need to get your car on the road... and keep it there. Check the link for some of the topics we're going to try to have.

Some of the topics may seem basic or something you don't need a class on, like electrical stuff. Well, let me tell you, electrical stuff isn't as rudimentary as you think and it's one of those areas that everyone skimps on. "yeah, this 60 year old 6v wiring harness is good enough!" After working for a year and a half on my 59, I have almost burned it down 3 times this year... all due to faulty wiring... and "I know what I'm doing" yeah, right. Electrical problems are hard to chase down and can, at best, give you a poorly performing rod, or worse leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere or with a pile of ash... just ask Magnet about his friend's 34 Ford coupe charcoal briquet."

Class is filling up fast, so get signed up. I think there are only a couple of spots left! Sign up today at:
