My buddy is trying to remove the chrome trim that runs across the top of the windshield on his 56 Buick Special and we cannot seem to figure how to get the middle of the piece loose. Is there a trick to getting this clip or mounting tab or some special tool needed. Thanks
has to come out with the rubber - and installed on the new rubber before you put the windshield back in - don't force it, you'll bend it...ask me how I know
Yup^^^^ - I've seen it hammered back in place. Not so neat-o. The bottom should be bolted in, you can get to the nuts from under the dash. (if it's like a Chevy) Leave them loose when you put the trim back on-makes it a lot easier to make the curve.
So if he is not removing the windshield, then we will need to tape around the chrome trim and the rubber seal to paint the roof? Thanks for the quick answers.
Yes, you are correct. Rubber, gl***, and stainless trim are installed or removed together as an ***embly. Except for the lower stainless which is removed first or installed last. Greg Should be the same as a '56 chevy.
The only way that trim is removeable in a salvagable state is to remove it with the rubber and gl***.
