GMBs - Detroit HAMB Chop?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by stickylifter, Sep 26, 2005.

  1. Here's pics I took of one at the Mobtown Greaseball over a week ago.
Pretty slick with the caddy fins. Good luck on the chop.

  2. Heh heh! Hell yeah! The more the merrier, many hands make light work. It'll be good to see you again.

flatheadpete - what kind of welder do you have? roadstar has a TIG he's generously offered to lend to the effort (among other things). If we can get a couple of welders, things should go real quick. I have a 110 MIG.

I have a 110 Lincoln w/two full tanks and extra wire.

  6. In fact, I don't have any 220 outlets. I'm going to see about putting one in since Rudy is bringing the TIG.

I have an SP135 Lincoln 110v gas/wirefeed as well, so between me and flatheadpete and Aaron, we have 3 of em! That oughtta be enough.

  7. Not many good pics of that area, if you notice on a stocker the distance from teh top of the trunklid and the bottom of the window is about 4". Now, ours is about 3/8th". The whole roofline has been moved back. The decklid was just sitting there in this photo, the upper edge was lifted slifghtly.

As for the roofline, we took a wedge shaped section out tho "thin" the crown a bit. This also kept the side profile on the rear roof/declid transition sleek and uniform.

I'm up for it...the Nov. date works better for me as well. Let me know where/when...

At least if I can't get anything done on my car (no $$$) I can help someone else.

  9. Soooooo, you're not going to the same wedding I am that day? :D

That's my excuse. And I have to stick to it, I'm the best man.

Sounds like fun. If you run short on welders, which it doesn't sound like you will, I too have a 110 mig in the garage.

  11. Sticky, Although it sounds like you have plenty of help, I'd like to help too! I'm hell with a sawzall, can weld some. I have a 220 tig if you think you would want an extra. I could be the official hotdog griller. Shaun.

MarkX, would it be possible to have your cell number and if there are any questions that day that the guys could call you to speak to you directly. Like most folks, weekend minutes are free so no one's cell phone munites would be used in excess. Anyway, just a thought.

  15. You know, I think this brings the total up to 5 MIGs and 3 TIGs, but not one BBQ ... :)
It'd be great to have you there. I'm going to do a PM spam campaign next week when I have more details about who what when and I'll be sure to contact all y'all.

  16. If there's beer, I'll be there in spirit... get it? :D

I'll make it to SOMETHING this year... ,maybe, I hope...

    Y'all have fun now.

I got a bbq but the bitch is too big to haul, unless I bring my trailer. I have a wicked old portable coleman grill, the kind that you have to pour the fuel into a little tank and use. Pretty scary to light though.

I can help on the 3M stuff... I have a whole aisle of it at work. The problem is I don't have any cataloging on it.... we just store it for a local business, but I can buy it.

If you can give me part numbers on what you need, let me know.

I was thinking this might be a fun weekend to come hang out and watch the experts in action. I can take pictures kinda ok, but sometimes the subject is obscured by my thumb or groin. I could be the documentarian. I'm not 100% sure, but I'm thinking really hard about it.

Anyone who comes into town for this weekend can of course stay at my place, what is sometimes referred to as the HAMB Hotel. As most know I have plenty of room. It's gonna be a fun weekend, I can't hardley wait.

Hambers, power tools, and beer? I really should come, sounds like there may be a need for a Firefighter/EMT:D

Just kidding guys, sounds like a great time. You all should designate a photographer and do a kick ass tech post when it's over.

You and Earl Scheib should roll up here together. When the GMB's get together it's guaranteed to be a GREAT time...... and ya, bring your medical bag just in case:D

It's funny you brought a memory to the surface of when I was using a plasma cutter on the rear end of Big Olds last winter cutting out the bumper bracket holes. Mike, Earl Scheib stood next to me with a HUGE fire extingisher:eek: :D

  24. I hope someone can help with a map so us Canadian lads don't end up at a different "Chop and Chow".......or is it "Beer and Bondo"!!... :)

    Thanks!!

Oh, crap. I just gfot the invite today!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Uh, Sticky-

  26. Thanks for the offer. I'm going to try to find stuff locally so I can have it all in hand before the big day. Anyone in the Detroit area got a 3M hookup? How about a HAMB-recommended store to buy at? I'd like to pick up supplies in the next week to 10 days.

Kevin - Sorry to hear you have the wedding, but thanks for offering the use of your garage. That's mighty generous to invite a bunch of strangers in to your home. HAMBers is the bestest!

I chopped that car with mark. It wasn;t nearly as hard as it looked. It took time but it was preety straight forward. Ill see if i have some pics.

Im building my bike at the gas monkey shop so i might grab the cd full of pics that says "fleetline chop" on it.

I think it has all of markx's and richards pics on it and might help you out.

If you have any questions just ask.

I might be able to make it . Ive been building a horse barn and it is almost done ( I need to get away from the horses and back to cars ) are you planning on having enough time to do the body work too ???? if so I'll bring down my tools

  29. I hope to be able to do body work on Sunday... That may be a bit optimistic, but we'll see.

Also, anyone out there got a lead on where I can get some door tops? I think I need some extra metal for the tops of the doors. I'm gonna go comb the stuff fer sale here...

Sticky... Do you have an update on the tools you still need for this chop?

It sounds like ya have plenty of welders on the way, what about the other stuff should we bring ie bead rollers, plasma, shrinkers, dollies, sheetmetal....

    Let us know.

    Thanks
