Aluminum skinned interiors?

Looking for some inspiration. Anyone else have riveted aluminum "upholstery" or other such features in their cockpit? Here's were I'm at with the door panels for the '29 coupe....next I'll do the floors in a similar style....

 

I am thinking of doing aluminum skin in my 29 roadster project. I would like to see some examples also.

cornfield, is that door panel chem milled?

 

i dont know what chem milled is. it was just flat sheet that i bead rolled the designs in, then to get it dulled out i sand blasted them then hit them with a scotch brite pad

 

I've given thought to doing this also. Couple of questions though; How do you keep from getting black crap on your clothes from the oxidation of the aluminum? Does all the hard surface area make for a noisy interior? Lots of squeeks, rattles?

Is that gold anodizing on the engine turned panels?

Chemical milling is eating away the surface with acid. You mask off what you don't want milled with a paint-on masking material.

They threw a bunch of truck tool boxes away at work some years ago.
I got em and cut em up.
Now I have panels that are going into my Suburban interior and trim.
Also I'm trimming the Galaxie with it.
It looks pretty good for not really being skilled in this.

All the aluminum is .040

To get the color on the engine turned panels I used enamel yellow candy paint

After checking out some of the cars at the Meltdown last weekend I got to thinking that an aluminum interior would be cool but it could be noisy. So why not do part of the panel with silver vinyl? The panel below could have the lower section cut out and replaced tuck and roll silver vinyl.

 

To eliminate the noise concern, back up the panels with Dyna matt, or Peal N Seal....and add weatherstripping between the panels and the mounting surfaces.

 

I'd consider it an honor....!

Good stuff,,,very clever design and skill.. I also would think copper, due to its colour would be a good medium if you could source a heavy enough gauge...cheap

I like it....looks kind of WWII ish.

 

I have a question about the noise.

I have friends who drive drag racing cars that are all tubbed out on the street and the noise from all the fasteners would drive you crazy when you are riding in it.

Are you using different fasteners or what are you using?

It's a very cool look for sure.

I'm making sure to install 1/4" closed cell weatherstripping foam tape between the skin and the body metal. I don't want any rattles or oil-canning noises.
