Where are your priorities?

I have a constant running debate with myself between performance and looks. I know I can bolt on any number of better looking intake and carburetor setups but I also know they will not perform better and more than likely as well as the simple single four barrel I’m running now.

So, where are your priorities? Performance or looks.

    Performance. Form follows function.

Unfortunately I have not learned this with women.

Mine is drivability. Guess that would be considered performance.

Reliability, then appearance as a traditional rod.

    It's not a race car.

Well...I'm running a TRX 1 tunnel ram (if I ever seem to get that far!). I'm anticipating that it will take a while to tune it and have it run right and there are probably way better choices for performance, but I want to fill up the space underneath the hood. Nothing is less impressive than an engine that sits even with the tops of the fenders. BLAH! So if I wasn't so long winded my answer would be...both. Which I guess isn't an answer at all. Now...where did I put my beer.

As somebody else on here once stated regarding women, It's better to give up some top end for driveability.

  11. For a street driven hot rod, id go for looks and being reliable. As to performance, thats for race cars. Dont see any point in driving a vehical thats going to get me speeding tickets. Lol.

  12. My priorities are working in the garage and let everything else go!

With a few exceptions, from what I see on here, I would say that performance doesnt even show up on most HAMBers list of priorities...

Start when I turn the key and go fast enough to keep up with modern sport sedans.

Performance when I was younger...now not so much.

I'd be happy if a couple of my projects were reliable (or complete) enough to be useable on a regular basis.

I will turn 66 next month and I am disabled. Over the years my at***ude has changed a great deal with regard to cars in general. In an attempt to finish one more project and considering cars in my past and my experience with them, I want "COOL".
I have come to the conclusion that fast is good when you are young, and fortunately I have had quite a few fast moments in the past.
At one time show and shine was appealing until I realized that my efforts only pleased onlookers and judges.
This time my priority is very simple. I just want "COOL" !!!!! Jeff

Looks, I'll never live long enough to drive the thing so it might as well look great while I'm here. Bob

I've got a thing for multiple carburetors...especially a 6x2 set-up. All that jewlery...yes indeedy. If they're tuned right, they can run fine. And I wouldn't care if it has a little less h.p. than a single 4brrl...they're cool as can be imo. How much h.p. does anybody really need to run on the street? Too much, and you'll never use it.

Kinda depends on the car though, and what era and style you're trying to emulate. Early-style hot rods?...6 2s on an old overhead V8 for me. The '56 in your avatar or something later?...3 2s or dual quads...with progressive linkage. I had a 383ci 4spd '70 Roadrunner with 2 4brrls and progressive linkage. That was fun and it ran real good...no hesitations.
