SO here it goes... I'm new to the Forum here and spent all night lurking about... I absolutely love Traditional Hot Rods, but know very little about them. I was introduced to them through Chris Davenport (Salt Flats Speed shop) who helped me build a Cafe motorcycle tank...I don't have enough kind words to say about him, Great guy. Anyway, I came into a 34 ford pickup Yesterday. I have been begging my Dad to give it to me for the last few years... well He showed up at my house with it on a trailer and the rest is up to me! I am super excited but as stated before I know little about what or what not to do. Chop-dont chop, etc...Any suggestions or insights are most welcome. I am sure there are differences of opinion I am just exploring options what ever they may be. Here are some pics of the truck. thanks in advanced
You should go here and post a introduction,, http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=18 Looks like a pretty solid truck,,BTW,,it's a 33 cab,,the 34 has a extra larger reforging belt line on the back of the cab. (Don corrected me,,I do see the extra rib,,sorry about that) This huge thread should keep you busy for a hour or two and add to the confusion on how you want to build your truck,,personally I a member of the to chop camp,,but I'm kinda tall. I think you should focus on completing the truck (drivetrain, etc) like it is and get it drivable. Then you can play with it for awhile and decide how you want to finish it. Welcome to the HAMB also!
Lurking "all night" isn't nearly enough. I lurked for years before joining. Immerse yourself in the archives. Don't be in such a hurry. You'll figure out what floats your boat and what direction to take it. You have to be happy with it. Nice truck. Good luck.
follow introduction link from HOTRODPRIMER. as for truck, a lot depends on your skills, how deep your wallet is and any help from modified truck building buddies.
Well, its all a matter of personal taste. I like them full fendered with a little shorter bed. You can do a lot with one of those but first decide on how you want to look in the end so you don't change course before you get it done. ps to HRP...look closely at the back, it does have the wide rib so its a 34 cab.
You are right Don,I blame it on my eyes,,I click on the photo and enlarged it,,the extra wide belt is indeed present. HRP
@ HRP thanks for the link... I'm sure ill be studying it frequently. A lot of beautiful builds on there. I am starting to get a feel for what I like already. oh yeah, Ill be sure and formally introduce myself on noobs page. @ USA Tire Sign Joe thanks! I do have a flathead for it, another topic i know little about and will be scouring the internet for an education @ uptown83 Excellent suggestion. let me think on that @ Mashed Thanks! I plan on becoming very familiar with this forum. and trust me I am in no rush... I'm the type of person who methodically goes about my projects. nothing is rushed. @jalopy Joker I have a pretty good skill set... I have worked as machinist since I was 13 in my dads shop. I have quite a few tools and machines at my disposal... my wallet isn't the deepest at the moment, but I am realistic in the time and money it will take to complete it. As for metal shaping, I am hoping I can get Chris (salt flats speed shop) to take care of the majority of it. I have a feeling I will be leaning on him quite a bit (he doesn't even know it yet)haha @ 56Don Sound Advice! Thanks! @HRP & Anthony Myrick That Green truck is amazing... Perfect IMHO thanks for posting.
Get out to the saltflats for Speedweek coming up. It will be all over after that. Good luck on your build and your eventual hotrod sickness.
