I have an old Chevrolet ( around 1915 ) and i cant figure it out what model it is and don't know if its worth to restore it.Its missing parts of the body so i cant figure it out what model it is nor are there any experts where i am.I tried sending a mail to general motors a while back with the serials on the car but they said i had to pay a fee to access the archives and live in the US.I was wondering if anyone here could help me. I'm not a native English speaker so please excuse any mistakes i did in explaining. Also forgot to mention that the engine starts and works like a charm. Some pics here http://imgur.com/a/wgFpO , it was build in into a house but thats another story , so yesterday we started geting it out thats why its in that stage but it has more parts than that , also the serials read 4641150 , then 348532 , B98 and the Chevrolet logo with 1. , thats all , if you need more pictures just ask. Im new here so Im sorry if i did any mistakes posting
The engine appears to be later than 1915..I believe it is a 1923 and posting this photo to verify. Secondly it is customary to post a introduction when joining the Hamb. HRP http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=18
The engines do indeed resemble as well as the radiator and as i said i dont know anything about the car , we just assumed the year from old people who knew the previous owner of this place and its in such a bad condition i couldnt find out what model it was. Maybe the serials could be of help? I also did an introduction , im sorry i didnt do it sooner but im really trying to find out more about the car and its value since my father wants to get rid of it and i dont.
A '23 engine will still have the open transmission, and a generator/distributor. (Danny, the pic you shared is a '27 engine with a '28 head- very popular upgrade, as the '27 and earlier heads had only 1 exhaust, and were prone to overheating and cracking, and that single exhaust REALLY stunk) Speedhunter, your pic is of a '28 engine, as it has the distributor in the block, the valvetrain covers, and dual exhaust head (interesting, though, that it's modified to run the generator, or a mag on the right side of the block) The date code is under the bowtie casting that you can just see in your pic. It will have a letter/number/number, for example: E 15 8 E= the month (May) 15= the day 8= the year (1928) Hope this helps
Just looked at your link, and your engine was cast on Feb 9, 1928. The chassis is probably a '26 truck (from the gauge), and the shell looks like a '29 with an earlier bowtie emblem in place of the oval emblem from '29.
Thanks Mac,I sent the OP a PM and tried to explain to him I am not a authority,,glad you could help. HRP
Bet there's a few here who have the same story. " OK kid, get that junk out of the yard this weekend "
You're a genius , thanks a lot , now it should be easier to find out how the car looked , maybe more help from you ?
Sent you a PM- also, try posting your pics in the "termites and bowties" thread... those Aussie Chevrolet guys know a good bit more than I do !!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=323303&highlight=termites+bowties
