I have spent a lot of time reading on this amazing site. Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to share their builds and valuable information. Here's a little background info. This truck is my first build, I have worked on a few cars over the years but nothing to this extent. I have noticed that when members post their progress the input from other members seems to give them the extra push to keep on building....So that is what I am hoping for lol. My father started on the body in the early 70's. He had an agreement with a body shop to work on it when they had extra time....I think they had it for 10yrs. In the early 90's I rebuilt a Ford 302 for my high school shop project but....it has never run yet. When I was 17 I used the money from a summer job to buy a drop axle front end with 4-bar kit, engine and tranny mounts, fiberglass fenders and running boards.....Move on to 2010 and I installed the front end and 4-bar kit. Then I mocked up the 302 and realized I had to cut the firewall in order for the engine to fit. So I removed the old firewall and ordered a 3" recessed firewall from direct sheet metal. I mocked the firewall up and left it. Last year I ordered the matching floor board kit. I got the idea from this site to use a 90's Chrysler minivan seat, so I got one for free and started welding up a seat frame. Do I have the record for the longest on going build ever? 40 years and second generation....Hopefully it won't be a third....lol I will try to post pictures of the progress.
Welcome to the HAMB, sounds like a great project. I found my '30 Roadster body 51 years ago, so you don't have the oldest project. Look forward to the photos. Bob
Hi; I have a 36 panel I bought 46 years ago, got it running 3 years ago ! It was the First car I ever bought ! Get your's running !! Chris
Yes pictures are mandatory! We're a visually stimulated group for the most part. And yes it's true. Once you post you are obligated to continue, both progress and reporting. You now OWE us pictures!! Good luck on your project. Keep after it and you'll get there.
40-50 years......I don't feel sooo bad now, took my 40 PU apart in 91 and still not finished. Lets see some photos of your 37, great look'n trucks, love the grill on that year.
I made up a seat frame for the Chrysler minivan bench seat and I used a slider kit from speedway motors. They recommended two slider kits for a bench seat but I used one and bent up a rod to connect the two sliders and it works perfect. I also modified the cup holder to fit my new seat frame. Up here in Canada we drink a lot of Tim Hortons coffee so the cup holder was a must!
Thanks guys! I mocked up some abs pipe for a steering column.....hopefully I measured properly! I will be picking up a new 32" ididit tilt column, column mounts, grant wheel and universals this week.
