I am relativley new to the HAMB, but am truly amazed at all the insight and information found here. I am wanting to drop my 54 as low as possible without bags or major front end surgery. Does anyone have any info that would be helpful? I was thinking three inch blocks in the rear, and Aerostar coils up front, any suggestions would be appreciated!! Speaking from experience, the Aerostar coils are the way to go. You get a substantial drop and improved handling. Now go join the 52-59 Ford Owners Social Group- over 1100 strong. Lots of great folks and advice. Best of luck to you.

  4. You may want to put air shocks in the back if you are just going to put 3" blocks in. Over BIG bumps the bump stops will hit and it will be a bit of a rougher ride with the 3" drop. Once air shocks are fitted you can put 40-60 p.s.i. in and cruise around in comfort. It is really really easy and really really cheap. I got a nice Air Lift setup for cheap on Amazon for my Ford along with some Gabrial High Jackers. Aerostar coils also work wonders! Don't forget to reverse the shackles when you do the blocks as well:cool:

That's what I have in my '52 and I'm real happy with it. Rides nice, no rubbing, sits low enough to look good without causing issues.

Another thing I did with my car was modify my front bumper brackets to get the bumper to sit about 1 1/2 inches lower. I always felt these cars looked like an old man with his pants pulled too far up from the front with where the bumper sits, mine is a bit closer to the pan now and I'm much happier with it that way. The 54 doesn't show it quite as bad as the 52-53 models did but it's still something to consider.

Squablow how is the rearend on your Ford setup? Did you use lowering blocks? Are you still using the original leaf springs? And also are you still utlizing the stock shackle mounts on the frame?

Good luck man! I miss my '53 Customline (302/C4). Lowered in the front with a bolt-in kit from Butch's and in the back with lowering blocks. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1375139574.816381.jpg

My 54 I had 4" blocks in the rear and collapsed coils in front. With the lake pipes I couldn't fit the end of my boot under it. Mwahhhhaaa!!

I think there is a ball joint trick you can do up front to get it a little lower, but I forgot exactly how it's done. I'm sure someone on here will chime in on it.
