A friend just bought this Ford Ramp truck in Western Pa just off of Rt 8 I believe . Not sure if it has been in that area all its life but would like to see if any one recognizes it and would have any past history of its use. It for sure is an original ramp truck from the 60's and has the original aluminum stamped ramps that were used back then. It has a 351 windsor engine and 4 speed in it now but we think it may have had a 6 cylinder in it before. It was originally blue but is now orangeish yellow. Thanks,Jim
I know it was a member on another car forum I am on was basically giving it away , other than that nothing ..
Do you think it was a funny car transport? If you see repaint(s) you can try a little paint remover on the door to see if something shows up under the current paint. Or are there some markings visible now? No going back once you start with the remover, though.
if that's a f7 or bigger it uses a LYB block same as like a 1953 Lincoln engine got a trans and bell for that engine
Roy I think A power stroke would make it go nice. Steve says it is a budget build and I can understand that idea. It is an F600 and does not have a y block. Maybe it did at one time . We are thinking 6 cylinder because the transmission loos original and I think it would bolt right up to the 351 with only a flywheel change.
It looks like it might have originally been built as someone's circle track or drag car hauler way back when. Buy a good running cheap big truck, weld a set of ramps on it and go. I've seen a lot of them around over the years that guys threw together that were done quite similar. For most of them it was less expensive than building or buying a trailer.
A friend of mine has a late 60's- early 70's Chevy ramp truck that was used by Frantic Fred Badberg to haul his race car back in the day.My buddy bought it abound74-75 and stretched it out a bit to haul full size cars. The truck is out to pasture now,but I just saw it last week.it is still intact, but the cab is badly rusted.
This one has stamped steel ramps on the bed not diamond plate runners like you normally see and the ramps to get the car up onto the truck are stamped alluminum . There is a picture of a 66 Comet I believe on the internet that is on the same kind of truck with the same ramps. Maybe Steve will post up the picture.
Have your friend join the Ford Truck Enthusiast forum. A great place to talk and learn about Ford Trucks.
