Question! I have a 1953 Buick Special. I keep having issues with my drum brakes. I've had my master cylinder rebuilt recently and had it lock up once since then. I just picked it up from the shop today, from getting a new water pump and some other minor things worked on. My mechanic said there was a clogged vent on the master cylinder that was clogged. He cleaned it out and he didn't have a problem after that. I drove it to work, which was about a 20-30 minute drive. By the time I got there I smelt a burning smell. Then tried to leave to the store and found that my brakes were seized again. They cooled down and were set free and I was able to drive home no problem. I spoke to a friend who said that there is a push rod that goes in and it might be too long or old as well as my lines being about 60 years old. Any ideas or suggestions? Similar experiences? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

How old are your rubber brake hoses?

They can go bad internally and act like check valves causing your brakes to stick on.

I'd start there. Also check brake rod adjustment.

Turns out everything was good, except for the tiny pressure vents in the master cylinder that were clogged to ****.
