Hey all. While cleaning up the spindles from my 62' Biscayne in prep for paint, I noticed the lower ball joint "receiver" piece has some damage to it, and the surface is a bit deformed. This is on the underside, so the surface the ball joint would touch. Will this cause a problem when I go to install everything? Should I try and heat it and pound back flat? Take a grinder to it? Get a new spindle? I attached a few photos.

    Thanks

    Mark

Get two new spindles and better disc brakes. While you are at it, figure out if you like the stance or want it a little lower.

    Brakes, engine, then paint.

There are plenty of people who change the stance, so you should be able to find a clean spindle if you desire. Skip the pounding and grinding.

Just smooth that down. I don't see a problem. The hole. Looks good.

Right on, thanks. I have a new disc brake conversion kit arriving today. I wanted to retain stock ride height, so I'm reusing the old spindles. Seems the only new, aftermarket spindles for these things i can find are all 2" drop. Plus this saves me some cash.

Just smooth it down...that's a hammer mark from beating on it to separate from the ball joint.

Looks like where it was smacked to bust the stud loose. Just grind it flat again.

Just file that smooth, the ball joint taper fit is what holds the two pieces together. The ball joint never touches that surface, just the rubber boot

Looks like someone did't have a br*** hammer in their ****nal of tools, or a pickle fork. Damage is only cosmetic, not structural; the spindle is forged steel, and that is't going to hurt it. Butch/56sedandelivery.
