Wouldn' it just save a lot of time and whining, if the "Introduction" was just part of the registration process....?????? Without an intro, no Entro...seems it would
save a lot of wasted space on posts and threads....

I noticed you never bothered to post a introduction,,I didn't set the rules.

Ryan did,,and a introduction was at one time part of the rules,,when I joined you would get your teeth kicked in if you didn't.

Personally,I see it as common sense but I was raised that way. HRP

It would seem that sense is not all that common these days.:D

.....Just seems like common courtesy really, and I know that's a rare commodity these days. I find it a bit annoying when someone comes on here and their first post is to ask a question before they even bother to say Hi, Hello, I'm so-and-so from wherever or anything else. They rate right up there with the same people whose first post is for the $45,000 "street rod" they're trying to sell. :D

The OP has a beautiful idea. I see that even the boss does not care about the introductions but there are people on here that just look for things to be ugly about. It is a shame really because there is such a large amount of knowledge here. If I post the big block in my Camaro is skipping everything blows up and I am told to go away but if I state the big block in my 49 Ford pick up is skipping then the whole world jumps in to help. No I am not trying to make this a Camaro site and I do try to go by the rules.

......Why is it looking for things to be ugly about to ask someone to say a few words about themselves, their interests and what they might be working on?

Just introduce your damn self and quit *****ing, you wouldn't walk into someone's house without saying who you are.

He is not trying to eliminate the introduction. He is trying to make it mandatory so people can spend more of their valuable time helping each other

Plus it may weed out spam in the long run and make people with o-t cars second guess getting on here.

It should be possible to have the registration process generate a normal thread in the intro section, to which people can reply as now. It can even pre-subscribe the member to that thread, as a default.

I see you are from the South,,I am also and it was ingrained on me from a very young age that Southerners use common courtesy (Manners when I was a child)

It doesn't hurt and can actually go a long way,,JMHO. HRP

  20. ... When a newcomer anywhere first opens their mouth to a group of established people, it should not be a "What can YOU do for me?" conversation ... a introduction avoids that and gets that person off on the right foot..

"What is this thing-ma-jig worth? I have no knowledge but if it is rare I want to sell it and send my kid through med school. ... how can YOU make MY life better?"

I agree and have no problem with it. Just seems sometimes that this becomes more important that trying to help someone. If you read the original post his idea is fantastic. Introduction must be completed as part of the registration.
Yes I am from the South and try to always be polite. I just wish everyone here felt the same because I am sure some have never returned after being blasted over something they just overlooked. Their input and knowledge is then lost forever Thanks for hearing me out.

If a guy opts out for a slight infraction he must have very thin skin, when I joined the Hamb I was instructed by a couple of friends to post a introduction,,

I posted a rather lengthy introduction and I figured I did a great job,,only trouble with my line of thinking I had now clue that the cap lock was on,,,I caught hell for yelling.

Several guys that actually gave me grief are now my friends. HRP
