I have been trying to gather a few parts when I find them for a 29' pickup project I want to start, been looking around at what's out there for original beds and how far to travel to get one and most seem to be $400-600....and need some work etc.
I started flipping a few rocks in town and ended up finding one that a guy took off and replaced with a brookville, if I had to rate it I would say it's a 9 out of a 10, it's solid, no rust and complete minus rear fenders and even has good wood in the floor and paint worth washing...lol, I paid $1000 for it.....what's your thoughts??

How much is a Brookville bed? How much work a $50/hr to make an old one look that good? I would think $50/hr would be a fair body shop rate. BMW shop by me is $125/hr and they log every 1/10 hr and back yard guy is $30 and he is sloppy about his tracking of hrs.

Hey if you kept looking for another 3 or 4 years you might find another one almost as good for twice the price !!

(Sounds like you got a good one.)

I look at it this way, it was a fair price......not sure if for me or him, but it is all there and pretty much bolt and go and the paint still shines!!
He told me his new brookville bed with tail gate and all added up to $2200 when said and done.
With the mention of time/labor and all included, I still think I came out all right.

    Actually his Brookville was $2200 -$1000 = $1200. Win-win all around.

No, actually it is somewhat more than $1200 -- you have to add in his cost for the original bed (this would be the price of his truck less the price it would have been without a bed).

Around here you can get lucky some time and find one that's a old trailer. And get it for real cheap. I got one at a estate sale last year for a hundred bucks. Had the tailgate and fenders on it.

There is one of those deals on Craigslist right now south of where I am, it is a model T box that has been made into a trailer for many years and looks pretty clean, they have full steel on the floor, but comes sitting on two 35' 16" ford wheels. A week ago he was asking $1300 and he has now dropped the price to $500 and it's yours.....

You happy with it & seller is ok with it that is all that matters. What we think doesn't matter. Same as building or buying a vehicle. You money/your purchase & both partys are good that is all that counts.
    That's my opinion

Yeah, Un***embled 28-31 stock bed (includes tailgate) $1,400.00

Stainless steel stock style bed strips,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,$50.00

Stock sill boards (used on stock original Model A frame)$125.00

Wood shipping crate for pickup bed,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,$300.00

All the nuts and bolts and you can spend a good bit more.

you gotta come up with the bed wood yourself,,I think you got a good deal and your bed is original Henry Ford Steel. HRP

I guess the real deal is what I wanted and it even has a few little dings here and there to prove it.......;)
I thought about the price I paid throughout the day and I can't complain, it can be used as is for now if I wanted and like HRP said, its Henry steel.

  29. We have a fella down this way, who makes them. Im not sure on price, but its more than you paid for the real deal. Well done, it looks nice.
