    Hello HAMBers,
Looing for information, opinions & advise on the Electronic Ignition Conversion Kits, advertised to: "never have to change points again, increases voltage, improves performance & fuel efficency". I am looking at Speedway motors part# 447-1168 (for example), for Chevy 1955 235 ci 6 cylinder motor. Would very much appreciate any information & recommendations, the good, the bad, &/or the ugly. Thanks very much. Regards,

Don't know about that part in particular but Pertronix or an HEI from a newer vehicle if available does a world of good.
I 've seen it cover hesitations, start easier, just run better.

    That's a Pertronix Ignitor.

I have installed over 100 for customers. Never a complaint, only rave reviews. Only one failure, and that was totally my fault.

Nothing wrong with points. Make sure your distributor bushing is in decent shape though, upgrade or not.
    Good luck.

Using petronics on all my cars and never had a issue. I do however keep the points in the trunk just in case. That's the beauty of petronics. Easy swap.

I put a Buick HEI in a 289 Ford a long time ago when money was tight and I wanted to loose the points. I was really a simple modification . Just had to turn the body down a little to fit in the block and made a coupler to connect the lower part of the 289 gear and shaft. Just a low buck solution and if anything went wrong the parts were available at the local parts store.

Just received a Pertronix for my 235, but it won't be on the road for a month or so. Most guys I spoke to about the unit said good things about it, so looking forward to it. That said, for some reason Patrick doesn't care for them. Don't know why...

Tom Langdon makes mini HEI's for many applications. That's where I would check first.... Then check with Bubba. Either order you cant go wrong.

I converted my points/57 Ford to DuraSpark II system. Cheap for me to do, I had all the parts laying around.

  15. Contact GMCBUBBA (he's the closest to ya) here on the HAMB and get a pertonix conversion. Forget about that Chinese Speedway **** and support your fellow HAMber in one fell swoop.

me personally if I am converting one at home I go with a mallory unilite conversion. But Bubbas stuff is ***s. I have a dizzy he set up for my olds race motor that is pertonix by bubba.

    Edit damnit:
here is is correct screen name GMC BUBBA

Uh...the same could be said about a flathead or a thousand other things on our cars. Sometimes I like black and white TV better.
