Inquiry: Hooked on Classics in MN

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by chickenridgerods, Oct 15, 2005.

  1. Have any of you Twin Cities, MN area guys dealt with this place? Are the vehicles they're selling overpriced junk or decent, worthwhile cars?

They've got one that's piqued my interest, but I don't trust their pics or description without a third party confirmation or reference.

    Thanks.

Been there once several yrs ago to check out a couple cars that looked good from the internet ad, and then called the guy who said they were nice cars. So I stopped in during a trip to visit family I have up there and found they weren't as nice\solid as he made them out to be.

Bottom line, get somebody local to check out the cars in person beforehand if at all possible.

i haven't done business with them, but i've been to their place to look around. i'd say if you're in iowa, drive on up there and see yourself! the place is worth a look around. their cars range all the way from outside stored restoreable parts cars, to some pretty damn rare stuff inside. they just buy, sell, consign, as far as i know, so the previous owners could have hidden some issues, but they don't seem to deal in junk.keep in mind, they are in minnesota, where they "seed" the rest of the rust belt! what is "nice" in MN is a parts car in the desert.

FWIW the guy who runs HOC, his son is/was a hamber, "redpunk".

Been there a few times just browsing, since I live about 15 miles from them. Prices seemed pretty high for the condition.

I know Daryl very well and get along good with him. He is like any car salesman, though, and will PUFF UP the condition of the cars he consigns, but i'm sure he would NOT deliberatly lie, or try to cover up any real bad issues with a car, at least, not if he knows about it.

Definately worth a trip, and then, just spend some time looking at all the neat goodies laying arround the main room, that he's collected over the years. There's stuff piled on stuff, all over the place.

OH, and if the price seems too high, he will deal on them and call the owner to see if they will take your offer. Good luck.

I've never talked to anyone there, just go by to look at the field cars. Took a look there and on their website when I was trying to find a truck project. Guy has to make money, but a lot of the unrestored stuff can be had a whole lot cheaper behind a farmers barn.

However, they have had some weird stuff that you don't see very often. Check out the white Jaguar in this picture, it was in nice shape and if I hadn't already had a spitfire to work on I would have bought it for the wife. I was out there looking at the M715 ambulance as a possible camper.

Just a side note, if you're going to make a trip to hooked on classics from a good distance, might as well take a run to Dassel and check out Northstar Willys as well if you like old Willys trucks and jeeps.
