I'm wanting to shoot red pearl over white but don't want it to look pink. Is there a way to get a darker red out of the pearl ? Thanks.
First, are you talking about a flip flop type pearl, one that is not seen until the lighting and angle are right? Or colored mica flakes? Big difference! With flip flop ( or interference pearl) you can vary the amount of pearl over the base by mix, or by coats. Less will give you little, or no pearl effect, too much and the base becomes cloudy, not darker. There is pretty much only one "color", or effect. Putting it over a darker base might give you what you want, though red pearl over red is not very noticeable. Color pearls are just the color the mica is. If you want a darker color, you have to buy it, mix your color with a darker color (but if anything but a darker red, it will change the color tone). You could also try topcoating the pearl with a red candy, it will darken it, but also take away from some of the"pearliness". The more coats, the less you see of the base pearl.
I want to use a flip flop type pearl. My truck has a red and black interior the red being heavy metalic that I could never match (this is my 2nd paint job). That's why I was thinking white with red pearl, I couldn't think of any other color to match the red, almost maroon interior.
I just put red / burgundy pearl over black on the truck. Outside is wow in the sun, in the shade or indoors, looks milky and ****. Try silver base
This is what I have inside, the door and dash are the same color. Any idea what pearl to put over white for a good contrast ?
paint whatever base you wish in solid color..midcoat with pearl in clear...final coat with clear...you can ghost flames..or what ever you wish ..with pearls..or coat whole paint job...make test panels..try differnt bases...then pick one you like most..
