kinda wondering what people are using as far as "junkyard parts" or other options as far as aftermarket , hoping to find a unit out of another vehicle that doesn't require too much modification , or as a last resort , what are people using as aftermarket motors....
Call Newport Engineering. You can get a bolt in motor that is USA made and does not require any modifications. It will run you around $200.
Bought mine off of eBay for less than 200 shipped, it was a few wires (12v, ground) and a small harness for the switch, but fit perfectly where the old va*** one went, and worked perfect!!! The only problem was my dash was fully ***embled when I installed the unit and had to lay upside down while putting blind nuts on-lotsa fun, but really nice piece!!!
Cool , thanks for the info on Newport Engineering , I have heard about them , I was looking for a bolt-in from a junkyard , but I guess I can cough up the dough for the right one , I will appreciate it when the rain falls...
Another vote for Newport, put one in my '46 and it works great. They even fixed it for free when I screwed it up!
just installed a Raingear kit in my 57. Fits under dash, elect. Fairly easy install and works great. Might check their website to see if they have anything that will work.
I used a rear hatch wiper motor off of a jeep Cherokee. I think it was somewhere in the early 90's. Only has one speed and delay but it works and was free. I got some pics stashed away somewhere if you want to see them.
If you would post them that would be cool , I am swaying to Newport , but , I gotta buddy that has a Cherokee that's junked.....I've been told that I'm so tight , that if you stuck a lump of coal up my **** , in 2 weeks you'd have a diamond...lol
Here is my version using a s-10 rear wiper motor. Good luck http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=299143
I have gotten a couple of PM's asking for pics of my Jeep Cherokee rear hatch wiper motor setup so here goes. Due to the small available space for the wiper motor the shaft must be shortened and part of the housing needed to be removed. After cutting off the housing I removed the bushing from the portion I removed and reinstalled it into the part that was left. The housing was a little bigger in this area so I used some epoxy to hold it in. I then made this bracket from some small angle iron and flat bar to mount the motor in the original location. After cutting the shaft off to the proper length I drilled and tapped a hole in the center of it and hand filed some flats on it to mount the original lever from the vacuum motor. Here's a pic of it mounted and all hooked up. I used a simple universal push pull headlight switch with two positions so that I pull it out half way to turn the wipers on. All the way out turns on the delay function.
Hey, I just installed a 6 volt wiper motor in my 51 fleetline. Got it from Nat'l Chev ***oc., works flawlessly and took about 10 minutes to install and has both high/low speed and return. They have both 12 and 6 volt options and they are an exact replacement of original. Run about $250
I have used Newport (not impressed as it only has a 90 degree sweep). I have also done a cable drive set up. I would do that again next time. I did a tech article for Custom Rodder many yrs ago. (it is on my website). allows you do select the degree of sweep and the motor is easy to mount in the kickpanel area or up under the dash.
