Well its been a long time since I posted anything on the board, but since football is winding down and the first nine weeks are almost over. I think its time for an update of sorts. For those of you who dont know I was building a chopped and channeled 3 window coupe. Running the Lincoln 430 with six 97s on a crower u-fab and a four speed. The key word is WAS. Couple of weeks ago dad got a phone call, standard barnfind conversation. A friend of a friend knows a hermit who has a cave full of old cars. So we go and check it, the thinking being it would pan it to nothing. Yeah we were wrong. Partially restored 31 roadster, all there and all solid. In another barn was a completely disassembled 29 deluxe roadster. Perfect cowl, perfect hood, quarters little rough. But when you have a pile of NOS parts including patch panels for all the rough body panels youve got to just smile. So things have changed just a little bit for my car. I sold the glass body to another young guy who wanted a starting point. And now im building a 29 highboy . A highboy from hell, think of it as the Barry Bonds of AV8s all juiced up and ready to rock. The body frame has been cut to fit the Z in the frame. I cut the rough stuff off the quarters, and we are getting ready to start welding the new panels in. Im still going to run the merc dash, and still going to run that big Lincoln. Just now its going to be a roadster. For the 31 dads going to build it as a full fendered flathead powered car. Ill update as soon as I can. Later Marc
WOW! Stories like this always get me juiced up..........just to continue the Bonds analogy............... This is the shit that keeps me chasing after stories like this.........Keep us posted............ Tim
bttt Gasserkid just left, we got the 29 body blown apart going to the blaster tomarrow and start the patch panel work. Sold off most of the stock stuff this weekend, so we got a good start to his killer 29.
Great find man!!! I to love stories like this,I only find a pile of parts that WERE whole cars. You gonna go back and pinch the frame??
bttt frames pinched about as much as we can go with the 430 lincoln and 4 speed , will be a highboy but we ze'ed it 6 inches so its gonna be low, top of the cheaters are about 3 inches from the top of the quarters, gonna be kool!
Very cool! Your car is gonna be bad ass with that motor! And I love full fendered A roadsters, especially with a flatty! I can't wait to see that all done!
Thanks guys. The greatest thing about it is the bitch will be on the road so much sooner, than it would have been with the glass coupe body. later Marc
Marc, Nice find! I see the '31 is missing the same headlight that the '34 we found is. Maybe the headlight fairies are taking them from the barns! Good luck with your build. Steven
Why do i love and hate these stories at the same time....Love it because they're so interesting, hate it because it never happens to me..
Nice story and great finds! Thanks for sharing. Steel is real... Good luck with your project and keep us posted! ati2dr
Anyone got any color suggestions for the 29. Im thinking somesort of copper or bronze i just cant picture it in my head yet.
I'm with the copper and white scheme. Lots of chrome of course. It's gonna be a bad monkey. Sweet finds.
One of these days I'm going to find a "Barn find" that dosn't stink. Way kool find guys good luck with the build and keep us posted. I may need to drive up for a visit. How are you going to keep Jack from behind the wheel? Dewey is less than 190 days away, I can't wait to see it in person. Happy Trails, Mick
