302 ford headers in a 35-40 ford

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by canfirefighter5, Aug 5, 2013.

  1. I am thinking of using a set of sanderson FF2 headers in my 37 just wondering what you guys think of them......any issues? I need something that will drop down between the last 2 exhaust ports to clear the box.

Looks like it might be tight on the number 1 and 2 tube clearing the top of the steering box, but it could just be camera angle too. Can you return them if they don't fit ?

I know some people have issues with Sanderson, but we have had two sets of Limefires and one set of Jaysters, and they fit and held up great. In fact, the Limefires on my 27 are over 25 years old and still look and work great.

x2, the pipes just have such a long run at an angle, that it does look like it won't clear.

  5. Thanks for the input I appreciate it. The sanderson website diagram shows that the tubes come out 3 1/4" from the head, I will have to measure and see if they will clear the box. Any other headers you think might fit?

  6. I sent the pictures to sanderson and they seem to think the ff2 headers will work fine but I may have to modify the motor mount.

Beware of Sanderson's 'dimensions'. I ordered a set of their shorty 'blockhugger' headers. After waiting three and a half months for them to be coated, they finally admitted that the headers had been mysteriously 'lost' at the coaters. Another two months go by and finally the prepaid headers show up. When I tried to fit them to the engine they were so out of shape on the mandrel bends that the collector flange was gouging into the block and there was over 1/4" of daylight between the header flange and the head when cranked down tight as it would go. I had hell's own job trying to get my money back - took months and in the meantime they gave me every excuse in the book as to how it was my fault - not theirs. Never again will I buy or use a product from Sanderson - and their 'customer service' is legendary - as in how not to handle customers....

  10. If you want something that will offer more power than a Block Hugger, look at these. They are a full length Tri Y. I designed them to fit very close to the block on a Model A chassis, which is narrower than yours. Patriot H8473-1 - you can get them from Summit or Jegs.

You can also look at these, They are a block hugger but use a flat collector which gives more clearance. Patriot H8482-1

Look also at 2001 or so mercury mountaineer headers - the last year of the 302. I think Ford Racing made them.

  12. I like the looks of this pair, I've been looking for a set of headers for my '47 ford/SBF. But there's no dimensions listed for these, not even at the Patriot site....

  13. I appreciate the heads up. They did reply to my questions very quickly, although I asked for a dimension where the pipe crosses over the motor mount so I could measure and never got it. I don't mind paying for something I know will work but I am still not convinced they will.

I like the look of the Patriot H8482-1 and yes dimensions would be helpful. I think these may be a possibility. It seems they are a new product so it may be hard to find someone who has tried them in this application.
Thanks for all the suggestions and help I really do appreciate it!

  14. The H8482 sticks out 2" from the block, is 12" tall, and is 17" from the front of the head flange to the end of the collector flange.

  15. sweet thanks! Looks like summit has the best price but they aren't available for a couple weeks.
