I have the chance to buy a 1940 Zephyr club coupe. I understand it is a uni-body car. Will that require some kind of frame to put it on bags or can I get it low enough with dropped springs?
The only rust I see is the bottom 1" of the doors and a couple of holes on the fenders. When I looked at it I didn't know about the uni-body construction and the car is 1 1/2 hours away. Thanks for the suggestions. John

I believe the Lincoln method of unibody construction was welding the body to the conventional frame as opposed to the sheet metal construction of front and rear sub-frames and floor reinforcement boxes etc.

Go get the "Som*****" and drag it home. We can figure out something later !!!
Get a skinny guy to go with you so he can crawl under the thing and take some pictures..........
If you really like the body style the frame could be sorted out once its on Jack Stands

Good God, man - a chance for me would mean it's a done deal and I'm just trying to round up a trailer! There was a Zephyr thread I read on here just the other day had me so worked up I had to go lean on my 48 Plymouth fender and make car noises for ten minutes. Unless it's total POS material or a fortune, if you don't get it you'll regret it for a long time.

Apparently, they really aren´t unibodies. Just a normal ch***is, but welded to the body. I think the club coupes have loads of potential.

It is not a unibody, in the modern sense, anyway. It has a stout, full-frame. The body is welded to it, rather than being bolted. Everything you can do with a full-frame car, you can do with this, you just have to carefully trim sheet metal first. Did one with a MII front, and truck arms in the rear, not that long ago. Lays rocker (after rear fender arch mods).

John, Study the attached link. It appears that gimpy and James D are on the money about the frame construction.
Open this Link and you can see frame rails. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=821000
Looks like a good project !!! I think that you will be glad that you bought it. Jeff

Here's a good shot of the rear frame rail. I am step-notching it here:

Hey John, long time no type. You better listen to all the above. Sounds like you may have found a winner. I knew of one about the same distance from you, but years ago. Could be the same one. Good luck.

Hi Lee! I have been just lurking lately. Found this and decided I fit this better than my T so I'm selling that stuff to pay for the Zephyr. Want your Schrodeder steering box back? LOL John
