Which rear axle will work/most common?

Hi, I'm building a fenderless '36 Ford Pickup and was wondering what my options were as far as rear-ends went. I would like the wheels to be as close to the box as possible without any clearance issues.

Any suggestions as far as a specific rear end or a WMS measurement would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

I'm running an 8" Ford out of a '73 Maverick. I believe it is 56" wide. It clears everything including fenders. Should be easy with no fenders.

Why not just run the 36 rear end?

Thanks. I've been looking for the factory rear end, but haven't had any luck in my area yet. Going to be heading to the junkyard this weekend and I was trying to get an idea of alternatives. Really just looking for WMS-WMS measurement.

First what tire size/section. Second, what wheel back space. Then decide the measurement you want to look for. If all the old cars have been cleaned out in your area, look to Ranger/ S10 pickups.

I have a good 8", it's 59 1/4" wide, flange to flange. It's in Texas though, not sure where you are. I'll take $75 for it.

Has a 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern and a 2.79 gear. Backing plates only, no drums.

It is, and that same width rear came in Granda and Monarch. Have one in my 36 Chevy. They came in both Ford 8" and GM ****er. The GM style had Ford stuff on the brake side of things.

I wonder what in the hell this 59" wide 8" I got came out of then? I can't imagine. It's a centered pinion axle.

Are you talking axle flange to axle flange, or bearing flange?

    McGurk,

Thanks for the information, that will be very helpful. As of now, the only piece of the puzzle I have is the cab, lol. It may seem like I'm jumping ahead of myself, but my buddy and I are going to build a custom frame, so I want to gather any components/information that will help us determine the location of everything. Again, I appreciate the help as this is my first build!
