I could use some help with choosing a 12v wiring harness for my 1955 ford ranch wagon. I just need to wire up the basics. Horns, lights, signals, etc. Thanks!

  2. Cheap but very good Rebel. Tugmaster on here. Doing a restoration type rebuild American Auto Wire more like original and very complete. Couple of big bucks more than Rebel.

Unless your harness is somehow damaged or you are adding circuts there is no reason to replace the harness. All to have to do is upgrade the generator, voltage regulator, and the lights. under the dash you have to add a different voltage regulator to drop the voltage from 12v to 6v . this is the way Ford did it from 56 to sometime in the 80s as all ford dashes were 6v . best place to find the voltage regulator for the dash is a 60s Mustang . if you don't want a used one any mustang restoration company like Mustangs Unlimited sell them new . If I were you I would buy 2 and use 1 for the factory radio . This is how I did the 12v upgrade on my 55 Mainline .

Also it is cheaper to do this way

American autowire makes the best kits I've ever used.

I forgot to say that you also should replace the flasher units under the dash

Thank you for all the advice, I'm not really sure if I want to reuse the old wires. I want to put new ones in and not have to worry about it for along time.

Agreed , these are the best and will save you time on the cheaper ones !

  11. I am a big proponent of American Autowire,I have used Rebel,Ron Frances and a few lesser Know kits and bang for your buck the American Autowire is the top of the heap.

This kit has everything, you wont have to buy anything else.

I used this kit in my own 32 pickup and wagon and we have installed 9 other kits in the last 3 years. HRP
