I was checking thirdyfivepickup's post on the Pile Up and saw a model A pickup that got me inspired. As luck would have it I had to go on a bit of a buying splurge during the week and got another Signature Models 1/18th diecast '31 pickup along with a bunch of other diecast; but I won't go there. Anyhow on getting home I got stuck into my new purchase. The grey primer I used isn't quite right, but it will do. It took a bit of digging around in my tire collection to come up with this combination. But I am pretty pleased with them. The wires are off a Highway 61 roadster, might even use the banger engine from that model. Only other thing done so far is dropping the headlight bar. Just noticed, I also took to the hoodsides with the grinder and flapper disc to get rid of the factory louvres; now you can see the misfit of the hood sides to the top. Might have to drill out the rivets and fix that eventually. I will have to make one of my aluminium dropped I-beams for it. But won't have time to do that in the next couple of weeks. It will pretty much stay in this mocked up form until then. But I will display it as is at the model display at the Picnic in a couple of weeks. Just a point of interest Road Legends also does an improved pickup in 1/18th diecast and is a bit cheaper but this is the better of the 2 in my opinion! Geoff aka whodaky
For detail to the estreme, just look in most model mgazines for models by Alex Kustov. He details to the max.
i'm not a model builder, but i always look at you guy stuff. and its great. i always think of building something after looking. keep up the good work. nice jod!!!!
in the "Finding things in the darndest places" file, I went to an arts and crafts store (Joann's) and in the scrapbooking dept. they had chrome, self adhesive "buttons" that are in various sizes, could be used to make hubcaps, moon tank ends, headlight covers, etc. They also had clear ones, that could be used for lenses.
Got one in paint and another got re-cleared thanks to a bunch of trash in the paint the first time around.
That 31 Who, needs to look a little more like Plan9's. Hopt, gosh that's a slick car........you boys always amaze me with your talent. xxx Brandy
Cool stuff as usual! Hemi and I had our first meeting of the Creepy Geeks® NorCal model club last Wednesday. I built a visible 4-banger (overhead-valve but still kinda neat) that runs and the spark plugs fire (well, light up). It was made for like 8 year olds but it got me back in the plastic mindset again. Hemi worked on a Red Baron chopper...super SICK! Anyway, I'm sure you'll start seeing model posts from me soon.
Cool stuff guys! That 57 Chevy is wild. Nice flames Fidgeter! Here is my 56 Pontiac I just finished. Click on the link below to read a few details about it. This is what I started with. 56 Pontiac Steve Steve Boutte Kustoms
Brandy ya gotta watch out fer Steve...his builds get downright stunnin'. Olson -------- (reaching...err..ugh...sorry yer too far away)
Well Im not patient enough for the detail either but heres some from the last couple weeks of my buddy and I bein bored.
Beautiful models. Forgive me for posting a picture that is not a car but here is a picture of a model steam engine that I am just completing. It is all made from steel and a little bit of brass. They are not as much fun as the cars but they are quicker and cheaper. If it works there is also a link to a short video of it running on about 10 lbs of air. well it didn't work go here and click on the movie gif. http://www.khspriggs.com/pages/2/index.htm
That's a model of the highest order Spook and an engineeering masterpiece to boot. Doesn't matter if its a car or not! Geoff aka whodaky
I build a few in the winter months and like FH I stopped wiring em , just too much work to just sit on the shelf when they are done BUT I do spend a lot of time on paint and STYLE ,
Cool stuff as usual. You guys have inspired me to 'step it down a notch or three' and just start buildin'. Look out for some crazy stuff in the next few weeks!
Sure be! How's that bellfower project comin'? I'll never get over how nice yer stuff turns out man. Olson
No worries - nothing is glued together yet. Rear tires are AMT '28 Lincoln. Front tires are Lindberg '36 Auburn. Wheels are discs from an old Monogram Black Widow RPU for the backings, and a Green Hornet Re-issue for the discs that will cover the outside.
