It could - if you left it be for too long. The idea is to pay close attention to it after you put it in there. Once you get it free then it needs to be flushed out - either with fresh water OR you can lube it up good with diesel, ATF or just about any other petroleum product and then start it up and let it run.

Don't pour coke in it and forget about for 6 months - that would obviously ruin it.

Heathen is right. Take it apart.

I had a ford inline six in an old modified that was stuck. Previous owner did the pull it & drop the clutch program...they broke the differential.

With the head off, I put a pine 2 x 2 on top of a piston, hydraulic jack on top of that, chain across top of jack diagonally, anchored to two head bolt holes. Pumped jack until piston broke free. Some were stuck so bad that the ring lands broke. This was after much soaking, prying, etc. If it had come loose, the rust & ridge in the cylinders would have quickly taken a toll on the rings and pistons anyway.

    Good luck,

Let it soak for a few days with something that's petroleum based, then give it a nudge and hope it will turn.
If it doesn't, I'd just pull the pan and heads and see what's going on . I would stay away from Coke and water as it'll just induce rust in the cylinders.
Forcing it over by rocking, etc. without a soak could be a quick path to a broken ring if one is a bit rusted up. Big plus is that it wasn't stored outside.

Diesel has worked for me, I would be very leery of coke or vinegar, they will cause their own problams, like more RUST!!! LW

In my old 272 I used ATF and CRC (penetrating oil), took about a week of working away at the ring gear until it starting moving, kept turning it by hand until it turned relatively smoothly, drained the gunk out of the sump and put fresh oil in, fired it up right on the floor to make sure it was gona run before putting it in the Mainline. Ran it for 3 years without using a drop of oil, was a great runner.
The 312 in my current car was frozen also after sitting for 35 years. Unfroze it using the same mix, now runs sweet as.
There's 2 engines that didn't need pulling apart.

Take a hose from a compression gauge, remove the Schrader valve and put the hose in a cylinder that is up on compression, then hook the other end to a air line and pressurize the cylinder. Once it turns keep moving to different cylinders until you make a full turn and by then the starter will turn it over. If it is meant to free up and not a rusted up engine that needs to come apart it will turn over.

    Yep!... What he^^^ sez......
Also grab a piece of 2x4" and a mallet...
Start tapping to tops of the pistons one per side and work your way back.. this should free up the pistons in no time... Do this after you soaked the tops with a ATF/acetone mix for a few days.. This always worked for me...;)

    Exactly.
I suppose it's all good to do it the other ways but we never see the follow up reports.
"Well we got the engine unstuck using the weasel piss and octopuss slime method that was posted. It now runs kinda sorta on mebbe 7 cylinders and sure puts out a lot of blue smoke but hot damn,we only spent a month trying."

For me - mostly - it's about the challenge and many times about saving a little money.A lot of the time the shit that I get into in these sorts of situations is old, old rare shit. Shit you can't just run to town and buy a head gasket for. Then even if you can get one they usually cost about 10 times what you'd expect to pay for one for a small block chevy, etc. I have un-stuck and run many engines over the years - often times without doing any further work to them. Then it allows me to advertise it as "runs". Make a big difference sometime.
