Sounds like an exercise in futility to me.

I can prety much gaurantee you could put the 55 drivetrain in a 53 -54 frame much easier.

Looked at this 54 when I went to the Spencer (Iowa) garage tour in 08. It's on a 55 frame and while I don't remember all the details it didn't sound like it was that bad a switch. Maybe they're on here or someone else from Spencer can provide more details.

Not what your looking for but wheres some FYI. When the 55 was under going road test it had a 54 body so no one could see what the next year model looked like.

That is a friend of mine sitting beside the chopped 54 Chev Two posts previous to this one. He says most body mounts, including the two below the firewall align perfectly. he says if was so easy he can not believe it. Greg

Ther is/was a fella here on the HAMB doing a car using a 56 seamless frame. The car was earlier than 53-54; 49-52 style. He was do***enting it fairly well. Maybe a search for 56 Chevy frame? Butch/56sedandelivery.

OK, do a search for, " 49 Chevy Coupe on a 56 chevy frame". 56 is basically the same frame as a 55, except the rear shackles and spring hangers are slightly different, and a 49 Chevy has basically the same floor as a 53-54. That should give you a pretty good idea. Butch/56sedandelivery.

I thought the proto type 55 had only the 54 front sheet metal.

The car pictured above is my 53 chevy and yes it does have a complete 55 chevy frame under it. it did take a little work but was definitely worth the effort! If you want more details on the swap I would be happy to help where I can.
