especially in this day and age one would think you would have to be **** all stupid to not know you would get more money selling instead of s****ping.
Is wrecking all those cars a statement for someone, dont know. But its a huge FU for all shoebox guys and girls.Sad...
I regret giving him so much business over the years. You would think that a person who invested everything into one specific model of car would feel a little more emotionally attached to the old yard beasts than that.
Don't regret it too much, in those years you fed Chris and Holly and helped them be in a position to start their own Shoebox business! My '27 T Roadster build: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t= 734383
I remember back in 1971 when I was in collage in upstate ny, they where putting in a new 4 lane near Hornell and an old wrecking yard was "in the way". They were selling whatever they could and then gonna bring in the crusher. Still sends chills down my back. I remember seeing really old stuff there, wooden spokes and all, and me without two nickels to rub together. Then again years later along Rt 22 in NY. There was a yard with a Henry J on a tower in the front, it was an old place that went deep into the woods. I can only guess what was back there. Brought in the crusher again. And now, just last year or so "Buck's" cleaned out his place. I remember gettin a trans for my '54 Chevy there in 1970...before I went off to school. I hate crushers. The EPA has a lot to do with it now a days. ugh.
Here's just one "before" picture I could find of the back lot. There were cars stacked 2-3 high in places all over the lot. A lot of treasures gone forever to become Chinese repro parts that won't fit properly.
That's too bad, maybe I missed something here... but would it have not made more sense to post the "before" pics a couple months ago under a heading of "going to s**** in two months" come and get these for s**** prices before they are crushed?
It is my understanding that it was Ray's nephew that was ultimately responsible for the demise of the company and the decision to crush what was left. Arrogance, pride, narcissism, whatever it was killed some valuable (and not so) parts and vehicles. But again, Chris and Holly live on to care for us shoebox nuts at http://shoebox-central.com And HOT DAMN! My link finally works!!! Chris, talk to your web developer about fixing the www thing. It's a simple "A record" or "CNAME" DNS issue (or combination of the two) that he should be able to sort out in a few minutes.
Your right. Chris is a standup guy and I am glad he started a new company. I'm sure I will be placing some orders in the near future.
okay....not gonna beat you wine'ers to much.....been to an old car auction lately - yes the scapers are out bidding mosts wantabie old car guy... been around crushing since I was 15 and now at 57 - my buds with the crushers just say - "should have got it before"....it went in.... old man Fry knew how to stack em' three high....all of my tinted 56 hardtop gl*** came from a car in the middle....posting pic on another thread about his yard....damn we sure crushed some good ones back in 1998....
my pet peeve is when a guy has cars for sale at outrageous prices for years, then all of sudden s****s them for pennies in comparison, there is no liquidation sale or anything, just goes from a 5k car to s**** pile, if a car is listed for a long time at low price and nobody takes it thats another thing
Yep and as Merc-O said, we see it all the time, be it a single car that sits in someone's backyard (not for sale) then gets junked or an entire wrecking yard that gets crushed out with little or no warning. it's an "if I can't restore the car/get my price, I'll crush it so NOBODY can have it". As someone said, these cars made him a living, then he turns and bites the hand that fed him. The sociopath that made the call is due for some bad karma...
I called Chris at shoe box central for parts on Monday and my parts were at my door the next day! I have never had that fast of service via the Internet or catologues before. He made sure to get the parts in the mail the day I placed the order even though he was busy in the shop working on a car project. He answered all of my questions over the phone regarding the parts I needed etc. Long story short- I received all my parts fast and correct.
http://shoebox-central is up and running at full capacity. Forums are up as well, full service website is now available. Support Chris and Holly and the Shoebox-Central community.
Tough to judge without knowing the whole story, maybe the property was sold and everything had to be gone immediately, would cost more to move the relics, either way it ****s...
