Hello everyone!! I'm new to the H.A.M.B. and I HAVE asked this question but I haven't got an exact answer. I have a '55 Ford Ranch Wagon that has been in the family since 1955. It sat in my uncles garage for a little over 30yrs. I took it over about a year and half ago. Since then the motor has been brought back to life. I recently sold the original Inline 6 and tranny. I got a sbf 302 and AOD out of '85 Ford pick-up. I need some help with what motor mounts to exactly get and I also need to know if I can use the stock tranny mount or do I need to get a different kind?? I also need to know if I can use the stock drive line or do I need to get a different drive line. I would greatly appreciate all and any info. Thanks a lot!!!

  2. The 83 mustang motor mounts is what I used in our 54 Ford and I used a 302 engine,,the transmission mount will probably need to be sourced.

The question of stock drive line,,are you referring to the rear axle?

You might need to check out the 52-59 Social Group,,there are a lot of guys that have crossed this bridge in the past. HRP

HOTRODPRIMER is correct, Fox Body Mustang mounts (79-92) Front Sump oil pan. As for the trans, the Fox (or possibly the trucks) should work with new holes drilled in the cross member.
Off the subject, but Maverick exhaust manifolds give more room around the steering box.

Ok, thanks!! I just want to be clear before I buy these parts. You're saying that the 1983 mustang motor mounts will work and that I'll also need a front sump oil pan?? I want to use the stock rear end and drive line from the '55 wagon.

  5. There's few details glossed over.... You'll also need the oil pump pickup to match the pan, and a oil dipstick will have to be installed (you do want to be able to check the oil... ;)).

As to the 'driveline', if you keep the original rear end you'll probably need to have a driveshaft built. I was unable to find a trans yoke that would fit a late trans/early u-joint when I did my swap, I had a late end put on the original shaft.

  6. visit the 52 to 59 group here on the HAMB. This very swap has been done many times. This group is great and we will help.

I just finished putting a 351w in my 59 ranchero.

But go to that site for the help

I actually visited the ford group and posted this same question, but I didn't get much feed back. It sounds like all my questions were answered on this thread. I just bought '83 mustang motor mounts and a front sump oil pan and pick up. Thanks for all the feed back guys!!! I read somewhere on here that I can use the stock tranny mount for my AOD as long as I flip it upside down. Is that true or do I have to buy a different one or fabricate one???
