Features '62-'65 Chevy II

Question for the Chevy II guys - what's your preferred pan for the V8 swap? A notched rear-sump, or a reproduction '65-'67 pan?

 

My 64 Chevy II

 

My preferance is the notched rear pan (Moroso,etc) as I usually race my cars. If just building a cruiser, the stock pans work fine. I have a original stock pan,pick-up,oil pump and shaft that is available if you are looking for a stock set up. PM me if any interest.

Was the graffiti original to the sign? Or someone's commentary on the lack of a V8 option?

 

It was their '63 ad campaign.

 

Interesting. I had no idea the graffiti-look thing was done that early.

 

Had a 62 that I swapped a 1960 371 Olds with dual range hydramatic (not Jetaway) into it. What made this difficult was the upper coil spring towers. This really cut down on the lateral room for exhaust. Ended up putting narrowed Econoline straight axle and old Chevy truck steering box.

But if I had to do it again I would've swapped out the front sub frame and suspension with either a Corvair front suspension, or put a 68 up Nova or Camaro sub frame and suspension. That way I could have saved the steering hassle.

Got a 1964 Chevy II that we have owned for over 30 yrs. At a very young age I remembered this car in our neighborhood, I think it was 1969. It was a very fast car that had a Z-28 302 engine. It now has a 1966 corvette 327 ci. L-79 350 hp, 4- spd. and a 557 rear end. For some reason this is my most fun car to drive. It is rust free and is just like it was back when.

Good for you to be smart (and lucky ) enough to hang onto it for all those years. Looks great.

Back in the eighties my '64 had a Milodon pan...the sump was the same depth front to rear and the center link passed thru a tube welded in the pan. The car sat fairly low, but the pan never hit anything. If I ever build another Nova Ill be looking for a pan like it..

 

Put new sneakers on the Chevy II last week.

Last weekend at Lodi Ca. Kingdon reunion drags

 

Here's mine it's my third first was a 2door sedan wish I still had the doors, second was bought as a parts car for $50 four door sedan drove it for many years. Wish I still had it. This ne is a big project. So far new brakes ,new fuel system, new wiring, new starter, new Altenator, new front suspension , gotta get the front end aligned right

 

Owned a couple chevy IIs, and noticed but never investigated enough to know about this small back glass. knew it was sedans only that had em but after research I see that in 65 they got a new top design making it a 65 only design rite before the major one in 66.
It may have made the little cars stronger but from a looks stand point I think they may have went backwards a little looking at it today. I like it ok, it is what it is but I think I like the previous one a little better.
