, wheel paint ideas,,,menards carries a full line of rustoleum 2x spray cans in bookoo choices,
I would try 'claret wine' first, a nice satin color,,,unusual, different, works great with gray primer car too.
also look at their wheel paint cans, they have a nice dark gray with metalics in it.
I have used this on my last 4 builds with steel wheels, and grills and bumpers sometimes,,, all positive comments so far,, because it is not the normal everyday rod choice...like red, orange and black.
experiment on a 15 inch round cardboard or poster board,,,then prop up to wheel and stand back and look.
I use a pc. of aluminum from roofing flashing or fron siding man, cut 8 inches by 20 inches... and form it to fit outside the tire bead in a semi-circle.
I have painted a hundred rims still on the car with this method. if it is the rustoleum metallic paint then I usually first apply one coat of 2x black paint and let dry an hr. then u only need one thin coat of gray metallic.

for the 10 dollar investment,, have some fun,,and add 300 to mark-up value of car
also consider a old set of center caps if steel wheels,,,ebay average 40-50 a set,,,60s style
I do remember in the 60s where the local hotrodders never ran hubcaps.
so it depends on what 'era' rod you wanna build.
hope u post pics when done

Thanks, been a work in progress. I bought it when I was 13, 49 years ago, actually drove it to high school in the late 60"s. Raising a family, couple of kids in college, working prohibited working on it. Started about 4 years ago and finally can see things starting to shape up.
