That is really impressive Hooli! I have to scratch build a 33/34 body soon and will definitely be looking to the books and DVD's I have from Lazze when I get onto it.

Initially the car had a 'glass body and a shorter wheelbase than it has now - the upswept rear was the only way I could get proportions looking good and not too heavy/stumpy in the rear. I have since added another 8" in the centre of the chassis which improves the overall balance further.
This thing is a bit of a mixed bag and will have other Euro inspired influences - I hope it all works. Planning of doing some LSR runs with it at this event so I need to hurry!!

Here is one that is our area built by the owner. All built over bucks and with mostly hand made tools I was told Jack

  3. I've been building a '40 Ford Coupe for myself in my spare time. It came with a sbc adapted to a '39 trans. It will stay till I get the appropriate motor in it. A FORD of course. But in the mean time I would like to drive it and I have visions of it overheating so I decided I will louver the hood and make new inner fender panels and louver them.

The originals where in pretty sad shape. I laid some paper down and sketched the outline, Cut the paper pattern and transferred it on to a piece of metal and tipped the edges to match the original. Mounted them and trimmed some more then laid out the louvers and punched them.

OK, so I was bored this evening. I have a louver die set for my Lennox that was originally ordered and sized for .09 aluminum. Tonight I thought I'd try them out on some 18 gauge CRS to see how well it performed...

What would be the difference between a set sized for .090 and 18 Gage? Shear clearance? Is that adjustable in your setup?

I like the way the female die rotates on your setup to make a crisp end.

I believe the difference would be the clearancing between the dies for the final "forming". But yes, there is adjustment to align/adjust the shear clearance.

That die set is the same size as one of my sets. Were those purchased from Neil Dunder? He built my latest set of dies. First rate quality! I have run louvers on everything from .032 alum. to .125 alum. with them. They also work great on 16 ga steel.

Yes, got them from Neil. As you said, he makes some nice stuff. I think I'm going to be getting one of his CP style planishing hammers in the near future.....

I was told there is a lot of shape in this panel and it isn't an easy one to create. I feel they weren't kidding..

I still need to do some planishing and defining of the bottom brake , but overall I am happy with it. I have to say that I made the panel on the first try, but I changed my mind and reassessed the shape so many times while building it I can't say that I really learned anything or could build another one any faster. I am guessing the lid should be a bit easier.

Nice job. That panel is harder to make than what it may look like to the casual observer, what with the reverse compound curve shape and the curved flanges at the edges.
