We finished her up!! Well at least now she's roadworthy! Finished this past staurday and brought her home from my friend's house where we thrashed away on it! (notice big stupid smile on my face) Here's the link to some of the work we had to do, etc. lots of rot, and big panel replacment,....the entire side of the p***enger cowl,....that kind of big! I need stuff from out west!! Our winters kill steel here in PA!

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=73754&highlight=gmc

I decided to take her and the wife on over to the dairy queen for the last cruise night of the year,....it was cold so not many came out. But at least I can drive her now, about a year after getting her too!

One of our guys in the club owns the red coupe in that picture. It's his 60's influence,...he drags it now and then, little more showy for me, but damn well built AND he built it COMPLETLEY in his BA*****T!!!! Same thing with the blue Olds he drags,...it ran in the 10s. I'll post a pic. Very good guy!!

But enough about that,..back to the truck!! lol.

I was just about to roll out my rant on lowered trucks, but you're right, it sits really high

Here's a second vote for lowering. Don't go nuts though. It is a truck, after all.

Yeah i know,....that's been the last thing on my mind though. Just wnted it to be complete, metal solid, and running and driving!!! I want to lower it about 4" only nothing to drastic because I want to keep the feel of the old shop truck from the 50s. Plus I want to keep the original frame so to do it i'll need about $300 for lowering stuff from Patrick's in AZ that specifically makes lowering kits "just" for 47-54 chevy and gmc trucks! Pricey,..that ****s!! Lowering blocks for the rear will be home made,....save some cash that way maybe,..we'll see. I'm broke now...

To drive the **** out of it,...and hopefully not slide into another car while doing it!! LOL!

My garage has no room for any more stuff,...which ****s ***!

However, if I get some cash I'll be picking up my buddy's Model A chasis (complete less motor $250) build a simple frame jig-like-box-structure to weld the frame to(so it doesn't twist during welding, etc.), then I'm going to box it, tip up the back about 12" or so, suicide the front end (aka bulldog style), keep the original model A wheels in front with Ford Steelies on rear, probably hack off the horns off the front of the frame (we'll see), find myself a 25-35 truck cab (Ford, Chevy, Dodge, whatever!!), chop the top, channel it over frame, and run either a GMC 320 (depends on my cash flow though i can get one damn cheap locally $100 bucks only!!), or actually snag a local guy's model A or B motor and slam it in. It depends on how traditional and how old an era I want it to look as if t came out of. I was born in the wrong time period! I'm thinking make it look like a guy who just came back from war in WWII and the year would be abot 1945-47.

Of course then I'll wake up and realize none of this is going to happen very soon!! :(

    LOL!

Right on man,..that does look killer. Though I'd never be able to get it into the garage,...there a little slope right at the end of the drive and I'd be hung up somethnig BAD if it was that low,...I'm talking,...

"captain, we've run agound!!! We're screwed!!!"

I've played with the idea of slamming it, but then the reality of nowhere to garage it came into play if it was that low. It's getting down about 4' inches though, give it some time, it will make a good difference when all is said and done. Next big thing is to either lower her or through on the fenton headers and exhaust!!

well, first of all, grsmnkycustoms truck is bagged, not just lowered. wouldn't that be something...

secondly, do not try to save money by making lowering blocks yourself. spend the fifty bucks and buy something good. that's not the place to cut corners, so to speak.

    safety first, kids.

lastly, a four inch drop will look good and nostalgic at the same time. be sure to post another picture of it lowered for us.

    tred-
I have like 1 3/4" wide leafs,....not a full 2" like you see on most vehicles, or that are availible from your local Autozone. I was even going to just get autozone's stuff and work with that!!?? You know where I can score a set of "correct" width lowering blocks fro this puppy? I'm not going to remove any leafs from the springs,....way to many cons than pros on that idea that I've heard. I just can't risk it,..at least not without having a few PBRs or Coronas in me first!!!

If so, check out the post I have about the
    "Vargo Dragway Reunion"
up here down the road from me in the town of Perkasie, PA. Saturday Noevember 5th. Its not a bad show, and I'm tryng to get some better hot rodders there to make it better,.... as it should be! So far about 5 guys from our club are showing,....some local guys with cool primered roadsters, and possibly some guys from Pirate Kustomz also. If you know anyone from the Hellcats CC in Jersey p*** it by them.

mooneyes sells the thinner blocks, for trucks like ours.

mine truck is bagged and if you look my driveway is steep too. but bags are nice, cuz rolling in to a show with the hot rod stance is one thing, but dropping that *** is even better! and as people will tell you i drive like a mad man to everywhere i can...fast as hell and haul a buncha **** too!

but i just sold it so its now a resident of phx....:( :( :(

but i got a 52 im starting on next! so look out boys!

The lowering blocks I found on the mooneyes site says 1" lowering blocks?? Are we talking 1" high,...or 1" wide? I was confused as I thought about your post that they had blocks for old trucks like ours??

CoalTownKid, Nice truck! I've built lots of these Advance-Design trucks.. on the rear,.you can remove all the short rear leafs / keep the 5 long ones; helps the ride /lowers the truck/can still haul stuff. I make my own lowering blocks out of 2x3 or 2x4 heavy wall tubing.;work great on stock rear springs. You may have to make new u-bolt bottom plates. On front you can remove some leafs safely or better yet go w/ mono-leaf springs to get it to sit lower w/o a lot of work...and best of all it's alll just bolt-in work. Good luck.
