So I finally have a car that is allowed to be on the HAMB. I bought a 1928 Model A, A is for Awesome. I picked it up just west of Edmonton Alberta. So far my plans are to chop, channel, and Z the frame and run the original drive train for next summer. Then next winter I will deal with the Engine/trans/rear end and maybe clean up the body work. Anyways without further Adieu I present ....(I need a name now I guess) The day I bought it, brought it home, moved it into the garage, and now I am de-fendering it
You must be stoked Ryan. Have you thought about just initially getting it running sweet and cruising it Jalopy style for a while. Just stock and highboy. I may be getting older but the more I see of that style the more I like it. Looks like you are going to get good at putting in patch panels Or that way with just a subtle chop? With all the original brakes and drive line etc you may strike probs Zing the frame. Maybe wait until you do all the juice brakes etc and do it then. Another way would be to hunt another ch***is and start building a rod specific version and when you are finished just swap the body over, selling the original to a restorer. Sometimes keeping it simple is best. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it!
Hey Pete, I am not totally sure if I have the time to do everything I want this winter, but getting it running and going fenderless are probably the 2 main concerns for me. Zing the frame maybe just a dream this year, it will probably happen when I tear it apart and do the drive line. It is in really decent shape for being in canada with salt on the roads, but it will need a bunch of patching. Time to get into the shop now
Well this build got set on the back burner this last winter, work got too busy and my Land Cruiser ended up getting my spare time. So somehow I regained motivation this week and tore into the car. My ideas for it have changed a bit too. I am going to box in the frame, channel the body and run a hopped up banger. So here we go. I now have everything torn down and time to start cleaning and welding Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Ryan, May I be so bold as to suggest that you don't channel the body. I suggest you look search out the thread about fitting a T5 into a model A, get the ch***is done for reliability, then bolt the car back together, run it stock bodied without body work for a while, then if you really want to channel it - go do it then. Get some enjoyment out of it, and save yourself tie by not channelling it for a while. My unsolicited 2c worth.
The channeling will be the last thing to happen if I get a chance this fall/winter. The frame needs to be done first then the front end, wheels and tires then body. I really am digging the jalopy/hiboy look and I also think I am thinking more ambitious than I really am. It will be channeled one day and prob chopped Got some more done tonight Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
