That was owned by a guy in Lexington NC who bought it new and died several years ago.

Thanks! Maybe we'll get to see it at Hershey. It has been a while since an American built car won. Bob

Now if any of us had one of those Ferrari V-12 engines and put it into a '32 Ford, would it still be off topic?

You do know that there have been two V-12 Ferrari powered '32 roadsters that each won the AMBR award, right? I believe one was built by **** "Magoo" and the other by Roy Brizio.

  13. Yep. that's right 50. The Immerso one came down under around '90-ish times. The Magoo one was a pretty car. Was there a Rex Burnett cutaway, or am I off with the fairies?
Bad shifter- Delage, Alfa? Looks a little like the world's coolest cop car..

I'm just trying to be sarcastic to the correctness police. There are too many inconsistencies about what is or is not traditional and acceptable here on the HAMB.Like posting of this beautiful car.See post #3.

Off topic or not still pretty cool, and it still sounds sweet.

what impresse me is that his both he and his son drove the car regularly. the son who auctioned it off is reportedly donating all the proceeds to charity in his father's memory. helluva story!

    Sweet ride.

What's the story on the convertible, was only one made?

  20. I went on Sunday... once again it was the finest collection of cars ***embled anywhere.

The Packard that won was the first USA made car to win since the Dusenberg Mormon Meteor in 2008

Two made by Hess & Eisenhardt and one made by Derham that ended up in the William Clay Ford family for a while.

One of the H & E cars is missing, as is the Continental Mark II Retractable prototype, also made by H & E.

Deucari built by **** Magoo in 1979-80 for Brian Burnett (son of legendary cutaway artist Rex Burnett), who owned Los Gatos Ferrari at the time and the engine came from a wrecked customer car. I still have my original Los Gatos Ferrari license plate frames as seen on the Deucari and given to me by one of Brian's buddies. Still my favorite Deuce of all time - because it does not have to have a pushrod V8 to be a hot rod....;)

    1. BRIAN BURNETT's "DEUCARI" won the AMBR in 1979:

Son of HRM illustrator Rex Burnett and co-founder of the Nostalgia Drags, Brian Burnett was a Nor-Cal Ferrari
dealer (Ferrari of Los Gatos), so what better than a V-12 powered, Borrani wire wheeled, bright red '32 roadster?
**** "Magoo" Megugorac stretched the frame and hood to make the engine fit, and finished the car in typical
perfection to earn the '79 AMBR trophy. Current owner is @Mike Hegarty (son of the late Ed Hegarty).

    2. JAMES ELLS' Ferrari-powered Deuce Roadster won the AMBR in 1987:

James Ells' '87 AMBR winner was built in the Roy Brizio shop with a Wescott body, full custom independent
suspension by'Ron Covell, a sleek 3-piece aluminum hood, rolled pan, and V-windshield for a low, smooth,
modern look. It also has racked up many cross-country miles. Cliff Hansen is the current caretaker of the car and
owns several other Brizio built rides.

Fellow Hot Rodder (& HAMB lurker) Dennis Varni placed 3rd in Cl*** J-2 (European Cl***ic Late) with his beautiful 1940 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Graber Cabriolet:

Here's a few snapshots taken today at Varni's Speed Nymph Garage:

  26. You didn't catch Brootal at Dennis Varni's did you? He and Simon Davidson were lurking there at some point.

    @PEDDRO -

Actually I did see Boris Viskovic (@Brootal) there! ... He was sporting a H.A.M.B. T-shirt :D ... Here he is in one of my pics (taking a pic of Varni's #909 / Markley Bros. #360 Belly Tank lakester):

Brootal @ the Speed Nymph Garage (8-20-13).JPG

I intended to introduce myself ... but he was either busy snapping pics ... or engaged in a conversation with someone else ... including several HAMBers (e.g., @johnd, @SamIyam, @KIRK!, etc.).

Varni's Alfa was, of course, stellar in person.
