Yes, but this "piggy backs" the regulator right onto the back of the original alternator, whereas a true "one wire" deal has the regulator built into the alt. When I redid my headlight charging harness for the car, this allowed me to streamline the wiring to delete the regulator, yet keep the stock GEN light on the dash. The original 10 gauge lead to the original regulator is still in place, but I gutted the contents and used the regulator's shell to house my relays for my head lights. That is one modern car concession I do like, ultra bright halogen headlights. This keeps it all looking like it belongs...

Going to be doing that arch-swap to the rears on my '60, as soon as I score a pair of fenders to cull the arches from.

I plan on hitting the point of needing to open up my fenders one day. I really like the look of the old stock cars though and will probably go with just straight raidiused fenders.

The front arch does look mighty trick though. Nice and stock looking.

Very cool indeed. I love that stuff but would never notice it!

  8. Thought I'd throw up a few shots of the '60 slowly coming together .
Did the Shelby drop on the UCA's , fitted heavy lowered coils and Pedders shocks. 289 and C4 in the hole - If the bloody tunnel was any tighter the C4 would've needed "personal Lube"!
Rebuilt the Shelby calipers , fitted tandem master and 4 way valve . I have one brake line left to make up and I should have brakes .
This was a factory Auto trans car so I've fitted the shift detent plate and shift indicator from a '63 into the '60 Column .

Nice work! I was wondering what radiator you are using there? Im trying to work out what radiator to use in my car as the radiator support has already been cut to fit a 70's XA/XB falcon 6 cylinder 2 core radiator, which I was considering using but really need a shroud for it maybe. I've got a 302 going in, so the water pump outlet is the same as yours. If the support panel was original I would have just fitted up a mustang radiator, fan and shroud as apparently they bolt straight in. Cheers

  11. Thanks Veach , I'm building this for my wife, it will be her daily transport and when I've been especially well behaved I'll be allowed to take it out for spin! :D

Liam , Thanks . The Rad came with the project when I bought it in Ca earlier this year. I suspect that it has been a custom build, when I got the project it was mounted in FRONT of the rad support. The support had already been cut, I just tidied it up a little before painting the car and as you can see I've moved it back behind the support.
I've mounted it on soft mounts at the bottom and will build a support for the top which will bolt up to the two holes at the top of the support.
You might want to measure up a V8 XC-XD rad , I think they were a crossflow type and may be close to what you need for width?

    Rod .

Thanks for that. Yeah, I've considered V8 crossflow rads, ill measure up and see what the go is, although my current Rad is not very old, it might be ok with a decent fan & shroud.

Do you have to get your falcon certified or is it easy to get a wof & reg from vtnz with the new motor?

  13. Has to have a cert for the following ,
    289 & C4 ( custom trans cross-member )
    8" rear
    Shelby Drop
    Tandem brake system
Shelby ( kelsey hayes ) 4 pot front brakes
and because it's modified it has to have 3 point front seatbelts fitted, and yup they have to be certified as well !

once it's all ticked off the rest is all pretty straight forward though .

Ah true. That's surprising, although I am familiar with getting cars certed (had to get a few cars done back in the early 2000's) Here in Melbourne if would be no problem registering an american built car with some mods, especially if it looked kind of original. A lot of people here are putting old cars on a car club registration scheme, makes it real easy now.

  15. Wow; certifications for modifications? What's the process on that?

In the Commonwealth of Virginia, my Falcon is registered as an Antique vehicle: no safety or emissions inspections required. I just sign an affidavit that states my car is safe to operate on the highways of Virginia.

4t6- what kind of brake proportioning valve are you using here?

I'm using a Ford Granada valve that took me forever to find....

For all of the trash-talk I hear about California, I just filled out a form with my name and address, and paid a few dollars. No affidavit. No inspection (then, or ever). No official, or law enforcement officer, or inspector looked at my car. It is heavily modified underneath, and nobody cares.

It looks good to me I sure don't see a problem so how did they work ?

  18. Burnt Out , it's a repro of a mustang one , I'd guess it's probably much the same as what you are using . I'll post the part number here in this post tonight for you . It's 7.10am Monday here and I should be walking out the door for work.

the Virginia antique plate registration is too restrictive IMHO. your car looks like it would beat MOST newer cars in a safety inspection.

  22. But then I wouldn't get to have all the fun that goes along with YOM tags

And a safety inspection sticker (and county tag) that have been expired for fifty years....

County cops n' State Troopers just point and laugh at my safety sticker...

I was cruising the other night on the freeway at about 60 minding my own business and some young kid in a new mustang (2013) comes up beside me and starts goosing it.I know my little old 260/c4 is no match for him but I lay on the throttle a bit to acknowledge his challenge but laid off quickly.Needless to say he was about 6 cars ahead of me in no time.

I need some more cubes asap....

A 347 stroker based on an '87 5.0 but dressed as the 260 would wake your bird up, I'll bet.

I can run YOM plates here in Oregon also. It's pretty simple here; just pay your money and have them inspect the plates, not the car! All they care about here is the plates are correct for the year, and in good condition, so they're easy to read.
We pay a onetime, lifetime fee of $82, and that's it. If you sell, the new owner pays the fee again for his period of ownership. The state also doesn't require two plates if you run antique, special interest, or YOM plates. YOM are actually registered as "special interest", so the plate numbers have to be checked to make sure they aren't already in use.

  26. Big Block: $200 one time fee here in the Commonwealth- same deal on the tags here- as long as they're legible and the numbers are not in use, your good to go.

4t6, thanks for the heads up on the distribution block.

Anyhow, I wanted a curved Monte Carlo bar that was detachable without takin' my fender n' shock tower bolts out>

I called up FalconParts.com and asked 'em to send me one that hadn't been welded- they thought I was a weird-o for askin' but sent me one.

Here's the R/H plate bein' test fit...

I begged n' cajoled n' borrowed a lathe for a mornin' and made a couple ends for the pipe and used a some 3/8 heim joints that were left over from a long ago motorcycle project.

That's a cheesy cardboard pattern for my mounting tabs below it.

    Here's the un-welded Falcon Parts.com .810 ID/1.0 OD Monte Carlo bar:

Test fittin' the ends after trimming the bar to length...

  27. Tabs made from .25" scrap...

Lets get all the pointin' and laughin' at my welds out of the way right now.

Just because someone is foolish enough to let me barrow their MIG, doesn't necessarily make me a welder.

I'll be go to hell; it actually fit.

Now I gotta' take it back off, bead blast it and spray bomb it semi-gloss black, right after I drill a coupla more holes in my fenders and aprons for the mounting plates....

    Later:
