Are you runnung 3 points for the kiddies or just the lap belts?

I think that I am going to err on the safe side with the wagon and go 3 point.
But I need to find a set of these and adapt them for out of car use!

Frankie doesn't ride in the bucket other than the ocassional ride round the block. No seatbelt on the passenger side. She rides in Momma's arms. Next car will have ALL the safety equipment it needs for her to ride in it.

I have not perticularly seen this type before, if you found one I don't think it would pass an inspection. There is a company that has a 3 point harness for rear seats for kids, I'll have to search for it though (related to buss seat belts). In the state of Illinois, the law states if the car originally has only lap belts, then a booster seat is not needed/nor safe. So my boy only wears a lap belt in the 56.

It's weird how things used to be. I had an old issue of popular mecanics from the 50's that showed how to take the back seat out of a vw bug and build a "play platform". Showed kids on their hands and knees playing with little cars in the back. Scarry stuff.

I remember only having to wear a seat belt on trips ;) until it was law.

  13. I've seen something like this in a catalog once but it definately was not the kind of place you buy stuff for the kids from. Besides the latex would probably stretch too much in an accident.

Even though it kinda ruins the look of a traditional custom, my Packard will have three points front and back. Better to ruin the look of the car than have the metal dash ruining a life...

What amazes me is that North Carolina recently passed a law that requires kids to be in a child restraint seat until they are 8 yrs old! Shoot, I was DRIVING when I was 8!

I only have lap belts in my 52, and that's what's holding Slide Jr.'s car seat in... and eventually the one for our 5-week-old daughter as well. I'm thinking I might add one of those loops to the package tray for the upper tether, though.

Not looking for in car restraint with one of these but to keep the kids from tearing up the stores! It was the thing that got me thinking about safety last night. It always drives me nuts that parents let their kids stand up and walk around the car while its moving! I pulled a cop over this summer because I saw a woman unbelted holding a newborn in the back of a convertable with the top down. The cop did nothing!!! Said he couldn't do anything till they committed a violation. The next week I did some research and found out he was lying and lazy about the seaatbelt law!

Which is statistically backwards since most collisions happen within 25 miles of home...

I have three seat belts in my truck, with the middle set tucked under but available for those rare occasions when I've had three in the cab, like on the Las Vegas Speedway, pace car led laps.
I bolted the belt anchors to the cab only, just in case the cab gets ripped of the frame.
If the belts are fastened to the frame and the body tears off the frame the belts will cut you in two for sure!
I bukle up without even thinking about it. I know I do becsue I find myself buckled up even when just shuffling cars around in the driveway.
I usta work for the company that makes crash test dummies and I know what even a 30 mph impact can do.
If your chest hits a solid steering column at 30 mph it pushes your sternum 3" back, there's only aabout 4" between the sternum and your back bone, and your heart is in there- crushed to just 1" thick....

My daughter's baby seat is rated up to 100 pounds. I think that would have had me sitting in the baby seat up until about 6th grade. Imagine the ass beating you would have got at school in 6th grade if you showed up in a baby seat. It's not safe I tell ya. I know a mom who can't weigh much over 100 pounds. Is she supposed to drive her car around with both her and the baby sitting in baby seats? She probably couldn't reach the pedals then.

I have seen the old 1930's films of model A's falling apart in accidents. I would never allow my kids in it. My 1950's cars are safer but still, I just don't think it's worth it.

I just used a boat style lap belt from Juliano's cinched it down and brought it up to police checkpoint for child safety. They got in the coupe gave the seat a tug and gave me a thumbs up.
I had a panel of white tuck and roll that matched my interior made to my measurements and installed myself. Custom seat cover.
