Anyone ever been to Bonneville Speed Week in September. I've never been but looks intriguing. Can anyone recommend or dissuade me from getting a ticket and flying out. Looks like a spectacle with all the cars and salt.

Speedweek is in August. World of Speed is in September and is and is put on by the USFRA (using SCTA rules). It is a decent event but not on the same scale as Speedweek. The next SCTA sanctioned event at Bville will be the World Finals in October.

Speedweek happens in August. It was 10th through 16th and just finished. World of Speed USFRA in Sept and Cooks Shootout in Sept. World Finals in Oct. See scta-bni.org and usfra website for details. None of these events are as large as speedweek but each has its own merits.

How is the event in October? If I go at all, I want to go to the best one I can (as a spectator of course, I have nothing to run but wish I did). Looks like I missed the boat for the August one.

  7. October can be a***** shoot. Slim that owns landracing.com did some data and I think it was rained out 20 or 40 percent of the time? Who knows with the crazy weather this year?

Speedweek of course is the largest but World of Speed will draw more cars and bikes than the others.

World of Speed when I went a few years ago was alright for a three day event but not as big as Speed Week or the World Finals. You need to visit USFRA's web site and read what it's all about.

Have gone to speed week forever and do World finals quite often. I prefer World finals for lower temps, usually faster speeds, more runs and less spectators crowding the starting line, plus realistic hotel room rates. The drawback, and it is a big one is that if you look at the history of World finals, you will find a 50% chance of good salt or standing on the shore line wondering when the boat races start! If you watch World's fastest Indian, it was filmed at World finals in 2004 (I was there) and shows just how good the salt can be when it is not inches or feet under water. And if you are REALLY lucky like me, you can stand on the south shore of Lake Bonneville at speed week and World finals like I did in 1993!
