    Hey guys,

Just curious if anyone else has been contacted about using your car for Tim Burton's new movie big eyes. It's shooting supposedly in San Francisco next week. I have a couple of questions if you were. I was contacted by a casting agent and just want to make sure things are legit before giving any information out.

    Thanks,
    George

Do a search,,Not because it's Tim Burton but some have experienced Nightmares (pun intended) with renting cars to movie company's. HRP

know a guy who rented his car to do a movie and beat the hell out of it , read the contract very carefully , if you have a lot of time and money into it I would reconsider not doing it , as basically they own the car during the filming and can do what ever they want to it as long as they repair the damage , and in his case they did a super ****ty job fixing it . the car was no where near the condition as what he gave it to them , they Packed and Wacked bondo into the panels , he lost more time in court than anything else .

    Thanks guys,

From what I understand, my car will be used in the background and I will be either driving it or it will be parked. The guys was asking me to sign. W9 form and all this **** but I told him I wasn't comfortable with giving some random person my SSN just because he says he's with a production company.

I was hoping someone else on here was also contacted so I cam see I this is some new scam or BS. I looked the guy up on FB and wrote a couple his friends to see if the guy is even real and what not.

I still wouldn't do it... movie production companies seem to thrive on destroying cl***ic cars... in this case if you are driving it, you will be right there when they sideswipe it, or crash into it.

Knowing how much time and effort I have into my truck and knowing what it takes to build a car. I wouldn't do it. I'd hate to read on here in a few weeks about another cool car getting thrashed.

I'm in the film business and have rented or brokered many cars for film and tv commercials, music videos. The things that sound a little strange is it's not generally casting agents that deal with picture vehicles (usually art dept. or transportation dept.)
and the W-9 isn't needed until you are filling out an invoice or time card at the end to get paid. As far as risk of damage, you should ask up front what they intend to shoot that involves your car and if you're not comfortable, say no. Production companies are required to carry millions of dollars of insurance coverage in case of accidents and most are responsible. The most common problems come from people being afraid to say no.

    5Wcoupe,

Thanks! What I was told was that the pay was $250 per day for the car and additional $140 for a driver. I told him that I wasn't comfortable giving my info out to some guy over the phone in which he replied he would talk to his "boss". He then responded via email saying "I talked to Glenn, who has said we need the info before the day of so we can put in a check request, which allows us to have the payment ready for you the day of shooting"

It seems fishy to me and I didn't give him any info. I was thinking of just filling out the W9 form with just a random SSN and see what happens then if this was real I would just say I made a mistake on the form or if it was a scam he doesn't have the correct information.

I called the place where we are supposedly going to meet but the manager wasn't in so they didn't know of there was going to be filming taking place there next week. Wouldn't I be able to call the city and find out if there was a permit granted for shooting there?

I'm all for saying no but it would be cool to have my ride in a film and get paid for it.

    Thanks,
    George

Putting aside the fear of them crushing/abusing or blowing up your car for a moment I would focus on the SSN request and whether this is 'legit' as that seems to be your real concern.

It should take no more than 5 mins to p*** the smell test. Simply get the company details and ask for their telephone number/website and his company email address. From that you should be able to find/call the company and confirm that a) he works for them and b) they are shooting next week. I would call their main telephone number. If you cant find them online or he is dealing with you from a gmail/aol account walk quickly in the opposite direction...

Handing out my SSN to a stranger isnt something I would be comfortable with...

I know we're talking about a large hunk of metal, plastic, rubber and upholstery but I would never ***** my car out to a movie studio.

My ot car was in a movie but the company put an ad in the paper looking for cl***ic cars. I got paid 50 bucks and drove the car the five feet it took for the shot . The only thing they didn't tell us was it was a scene in the rain so they had fire hoses on the roofs of the building soaking our clean cars. It took about 6 hours for the 30 second shot.

    $50 for six hours work??

I hope this was back in the 1940s or something.

  17. Make sure you register your car with SAG, (Screen Actors Guild) they have rules and regulations that have to be followed by the production company.

Thanks guys for the information and wisdom. I appreciate it! I'm leaning more towards no because of the scam side and not because of the horror story's.

    Thanks,
    George

As 5Wcoupe said in post 7 there shouldn't be a legit reason to give out personal info until you actually are filling out a form onsite to get paid. If they can't deal with the "I don't give that out over the phone but will be happy to fill out the proper forms in person" thing I'd stay away from them.

On the car being there, as others said I'd have to know exactly what they had planned for my particular car. You don't want to find out that someone is supposed to land on the hood in a fight scene after you already signed the papers.

No way I'd give anyone my SSN over the phone! If it feels or sounds funny, you better listen to your gut! Call the Better Business Bureau, and give them the company's info they gave you. They should be able to tell you if there's any filming going on, and who is really doing it. Also call your local Chamber of Commerce to verify.
From what I see there's no filming even being done in SF. It's all being done in Gastown, Canada, made up to look like SF.
Sounds like a scam to steal your iden***y to me.

Here in New Orleans there is an incredible amount of film production taking place. A friend here rented his Olds Toronado to a production outfit. They asked if they could change the interior from original stock to
a custom white layout. He agreed. After the filming was completed they asked him if he wanted it returned to the original motif or they would leave it as is. He kept the the very nicely done white and got paid to boot. However this seems to be an exception. Mostly I hear horror
stories about abuse and low pay.
